Investigation of Kyrgyz Learners’ Engagement in Online Courses

Gülşat MUHAMETJANOVA | Azat AKMATBEKOVA

This study aimed to investigate Kyrgyz learners' engagement in online courses. In this respect, the Student Engagement Scale and appropriate open-ended questions were employed in order to obtain data from learners. The sample covers 400 undergraduate learners studying at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. The study has a mixed research design, hence both quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed. The results of the study revealed that behavioral engagement has a significant effect on learner achievement. The study also demonstrated that the engagement of Kyrgyz learners in online cou ...Более

A Panel Study of the Impact of R&D on Financial Performance: Evidence from an Emerging Market

Mahmut ERDOĞAN | Adilya YAMALTDİNOVA

In recent years, innovation and R&D activities have been one of the most important factors affecting the growth strategies of the companies and their financial performance. However, it is the fundamental elements of sustainable economic growth, innovative activities have strategic decision-making characteristics due to their effects on efficiency and market value. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of R&D expenditures on the financial performance of 62 production companies listed in Borsa Istanbul in the period of 2008-2017 by using panel data methods. We used return on assets ...Более

E-Government Development in the Central Asian States: Best Practices, Challenges and Lessons Learned

Ulan BRİMKULOV | Kasım BARIKTABASOV

Many states of the world are developing e-government to raise operating efficiency, better service delivery to citizens, and reduce corruption. But successful development of e-government depends on many factors, such as the level of economic development, the development level of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure, the ICT literacy of citizens, legal framework, political leadership etc. This chapter attempts to confirm this statement using the example of the Central Asian states. The chapter also describes best practices, main challenges and obstacles, and lesson ...Более

Concentration Distribution of Molecules and Other Species in the Model System Fe-NaCl-Na2S-H2SO4-H2O at Various Temperatures of the Electrocoagulation Process

Zarlık MAYMEKOV | Canarbek İZAKOV | Nurzat ŞAYKİYEVA | Mustafa DOLAZ | Mehmet KOBYA

Under practical conditions, one of the possible solutions to the problem of treatment of hydrogen-sulfide-containing industrial wastewater is the electrochemical oxidation of sulfides. In this work, the model system Fe-NaCl-Na2S-H2SO4-H2O is considered, an experimental setup is constructed, and the electrocoagulation process is studied in a wide (288-308 K) range of temperatures of an aqueous solution of hydrogen sulfide. The optimal ratios between the initial components in the system are determined. The experimental and calculated pH of the solution are found. The system is thermodynamically ...Более

A new binary genetic programming approach to designing public transportation systems according to transit-oriented development criteria

Hasan YILMAZ

This study introduces a new evolutionary approach called Binary Genetic Programming (BGP) to design and assess public transportation systems from a sustainable development perspective. The BGP combines evolutionary system identi cation techniques with k-fold cross-validation to obtain an accurate model between the land use and transportation parameters from a sustainable urban development point of view. To assess the new model, two public transportation systems including the new tram line of Antalya (Turkey) and the bus rapid transit line of Bhopal (India) were considered. The model was employ ...Более

Optimization by Using the Taguchi Method of Boric Acid Production by Dissolving Flash Calcined Colemanite in Water Saturated with SO2

Ali Osman SOLAK

Turkey has the largest boron reserves in the world with a rate of approximately 72. The most common commercial boron reserves in Turkey are colemanite, tincal, and ulexite. Boric acid, which is the most commonly used boron compound in Turkey, is obtained from the dissolution of colemanite with sulfuric acid. In the present study, an aqueous medium saturated with sulfur dioxide instead of sulfuric acid was used in order to obtain boric acid. Colemanite ore was flash calcined at various temperatures and optimum dissolution conditions of the ore obtained in water saturated with SO2 were examined ...Более

A Multi-Objective Mathematical Programming Model for Transit Network Design and Frequency Setting Problem

İbrahim AKGÜN

In this study, we propose a novel multi-objective nonlinear mixed-integer mathematical programming model for the transit network design and frequency setting problem that aims at designing the routes and determining the frequencies of the routes to satisfy passenger demand in a transit network. The proposed model incorporates the features of real-life transit network systems and reflects the views of both passengers and the transit agency by considering the in-vehicle travel time, transfers, waiting times at the boarding and transfer stops, overcrowding and under-utilization of vehicles, and v ...Более

Ecological aspects in the use of soil enzymes as indicators of anthropogenic soil pollution

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA

In the contemporary era, with rapid industrial growth and urbanisation, analysing the impact of human activities on soil enzyme activity becomes crucial. The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of anthropogenic pollution on enzyme activity in soil. Research on enzyme activity levels in the soil in the city of Kara-Balta, Chuy Region, Kyrgyz Republic, was conducted using biochemical analyses and specific enzymatic tests. The results revealed significant diversity in catalase activity in different soil samples. Some samples exhibited high activity, while others showed low activity. ...Более

Renewable-based treatment solution of Reactive Blue 21 dye on fly ash as low-cost and sustainable adsorbent

Mehmet KOBYA

This study investigated the removal of Reactive Blue 21 (RB 21) dye from aqueous solutions by adsorption, evaluating the waste fly ash (FA). The effects of the parameters, such as initial dye concentration (100–750 mg/L), initial pH (2.0–8.0), adsorbent dose (1.0–4.0 g/L), and temperature (298–323 K) on the adsorption process were investigated. The optimum initial pH value was 2.0 for the highest RB21 dye removal (75.2 mg/g). At optimized conditions (pH 2.0, an adsorbent dosage of 1.0 g/L, a dye concentration of 750 mg/L, and an equilibrium time of 72 h), the highest adsorption capacity was fo ...Более

Possibilities for Prediction And Evaluation of the Carbon Footprint in Furnace Fuel Oil Combustion in Medium- and Low-Power Boilers

Mirlan MOLDOBAYEV | Zarlık MAYMEKOV

To predict and evaluate the carbon footprint in the gas phase, furnace fuel oil oxidation in excess air (alpha factor 1.3) was studied over a wide temperature (T 298–3000 K, P 0.1 MPa). Equilibrium thermodynamic parameters (entropy, enthalpy, and internal energy) and the concentration distributions of C-, S-, N-, O-, and H-containing components and active particles in the gas phase were determined. Based on the total concentration distribution of C-, S-, N-, O-, and H-containing components and active particles in the gas phase, the weight content of carbon was calculated. Taking into account t ...Более

Farewell Gulsary as a Revolutionary Portrait: The Vulnerability of Family and Friendship Relations on Kolkhozes = Bir Devrimci Portresi Olarak Elveda Gülsarı: Kolhozlarda Aile ve Arkadaşlık İlişkilerinin Kırılganlığı

Cevat ÖZYURT

This article systematically and holistically analyzes Chingiz Aitmatov’s criticism of the Soviet system through the primary relations of comrade Tanabay, the main character of Aitmatov’s (1966) novel Farewell, Gulsary using a qualitative research method and a hermeneutic approach. The hermeneutic approach enables one to be able to understand the author’s perception of a person in a socialist system and to interpret the changes in people’s attitudes, behaviors, and thoughts based on economic relations using the symbolic expressions in the text. In the novel, the tragedy of the pacer horse Gulsa ...Более
