Estimating Engagement in Gamified Activities

Rita İSMAİLOVA

The premise behind gamified learning systems is that they improve students’ motivation. However, there is still a scarcity of studies on examining motivational sources that may drive targeted motivation and engagement in gamified learning activities. Improving our understanding of this aspect requires a multi-faceted approach that allows both identifying relevant motivators and assessing their significance. We address this gap by employing three well-recognized theoretical frameworks: Self-determination theory, Expectancy Value theory and Big 5 Personality theory in experimental research aimed ...More

A new binary genetic programming approach to designing public transportation systems according to transit-oriented development criteria

Hasan YILMAZ

This study introduces a new evolutionary approach called Binary Genetic Programming (BGP) to design and assess public transportation systems from a sustainable development perspective. The BGP combines evolutionary system identi cation techniques with k-fold cross-validation to obtain an accurate model between the land use and transportation parameters from a sustainable urban development point of view. To assess the new model, two public transportation systems including the new tram line of Antalya (Turkey) and the bus rapid transit line of Bhopal (India) were considered. The model was employ ...More

Using information and communication technologies for the assessment of a large number of students

Kasım BARIKTABASOV | Çinara CUMABAYEVA | Ulan BRİMKULOV

Many examinations with thousands of participating students are organized world-wide every year. Usually, this large number of students sit the exams simulta-neously and answer almost the same set of questions. This method of learning assessment requires tremendous effort and resources to prepare the venues, print question books and organize the whole process. Additional restrictions and obsta-cles may appear in conditions similar to those during the COVID-19 pandemic. One way to obviate the necessity of having all the students take an exam during the same period of time is to use a computer-as ...More

Approaches in Scientific Research Methods and Phılosophical Dilemmas: Paradigm Wars = Bilimsel Araştırma Yöntemlerinde Yaklaşımlar ve Felsefi İkilemler: Paradigma Savaşları

Yavuz Ercan GÜL

All research is based on some basic assumptions about how good research is done and which research method is appropriate. It is important to be aware of these assumptions in conducting any research. The unjustified use of approaches with very different understandings of reality in the same study casts a shadow over the seriousness of the research. Because it guides scientific research through research paradigms, assumptions and principles. This study focuses on the research paradigm by examining the basic assumptions of Positivism, Naturalism and Pragmatism (ontology, epistemology, axiology an ...More
