An Electric Arc Furnace Model Based on Resynthesis Using Frequency Spectrum Distributions of EAF Currents

Özgül SALOR-DURNA

The research work presented in this paper proposes a method for modeling the behavior of the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) currents for a tap-to-tap time based on the DFT amplitude histograms of the EAF current waves. The method is used to model the EAF current behavior separately for each phase of the EAF operation: boring, melting and refining. The model is verified by comparing the THD histograms and the flicker measurements of the original and modeled EAF current waveforms. The proposed model can be used as an EAF model in the simulation environment for various purposes before the installatio ...More

A New Electric Arc Furnace Model Based on Current Waveform Synthesis from Distributions of DFT Amplitudes and Power System Frequency

Özgül SALOR-DURNA

The research work presented in this paper proposes a field-data based method for modeling the behavior of the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) currents for a tap-to-tap period. EAF current DFT distributions and fundamental frequency histograms obtained out of previously collected EAF currents are used to develop the proposed model, which offers a model for each phase of the EAF operation: boring, melting and refining. The model is verified by comparing the THD histograms and the flicker measurements of the original and the modeled EAF current waveforms. The aim of the proposed method is to provide a ...More

Accuracy of Discrete Markov Approximation in the Problems of Estimation of Random Processes Characteristics

Ulan BRİMKULOV | Çinara CUMABAYEVA | Kasım BARIKTABASOV

Many computational algorithms related to Markov processes contain the covariance matrix of measurements. Approximation of covariance matrix of measurements of observed random process by the covariance matrix of Markov process is of great interest. Because it gives an opportunity to develop computationally efficient algorithms for analysis of Markov processes (parametric identification, filtering, interpolation and others). This paper presents the algorithm of approximation of the covariance matrix of the observed process by the covariance matrix of a multiply connected (m-connected) Markov p ...More

A power system transient state estimation method based on Kalman filtering = Güç Sistemleri için Kalman Süzgecine Dayalı Bir Geçici Durum Kestirim Yöntemi

Mehmet KARADENİZ

On a power network, events are desired to be monitored to discover their reasons and to take preventive actions. Today, phase measurement units are used to obtain transient data of network, however these devices are expensive and it is not considered as a practical option to place one on each node of the network. Therefore, methods of estimating voltages and currents at non-measured points of the network are required. In this study, a special first-order Kalman Filter is introduced and transients on a power network connected by short lines are estimated using only line parameters. Simulation r ...More

Determination of Propagation Constants and Wave Impedance of Non-Reciprocal Networks From Position-Insensitive Waveguide Measurements

Mehmet ERTUĞRUL

A microwave method is proposed to determine the forward and backward propagation constants (gamma ⁺ and gamma ⁻) and the wave impedance ( z_w ) of reciprocal and non-reciprocal microwave networks whose positions are not known within their measurement cells (position-insensitive). The proposed method relies purely on analytical expressions and can also evaluate the reference plane transformation distances. Scattering parameter measurements at the X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz) of a reciprocal network (a waveguide straight) and a non-reciprocal network (a microwave phase shifter) arbitrarily positioned i ...More

Improved Method for Permittivity Determination of Dielectric Samples by Free-Space Measurements

Mehmet ERTUĞRUL

A new deembedding technique is proposed for relative complex permittivity epsilon(r) determination of dielectric materials using gated free-space measurements. Its three main features are 1) it does not require any formal calibration procedure (calibration-free); 2) it is position-insensitive; and 3) it extracts ripple-free epsilon(r) due to gating process. The objective function derived to determine epsilon(r) by the proposed method is validated by free-space measurements of three dielectric samples (polypropylene, polyethylene, and polyoxymethylene). Besides, the accuracy of our method is co ...More

Deep Learning Based Predictive Compensation of Flicker, Voltage Dips, Harmonics and Interharmonics in Electric Arc Furnaces

Özgül SALOR-DURNA

In this research work, deep machine learning-based methods together with a novel data augmentation are developed for predicting flicker, voltage dip, harmonics, and interharmonics originating from highly time-varying electric arc furnace (EAF) currents and voltage. The aim with the prediction is to counteract both the response and reaction time delays of active power filters (APFs) specifically designed for electric arc furnaces (EAF). Multiple synchronous reference frame (MSRF) analysis is used to decompose the frequency components of the EAF current and voltage waveforms into dqo components. ...More

Cybersecurity Awareness in Online Education: A Case Study Analysis

Mehmet Emin ERENDOR

This study presents to what extent Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University students are knowledgeable about cybersecurity in the distance education process. The survey was conducted with a sample of 517 students from all faculties of the university at the undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels. Our research study shows that although huge numbers of cyberattacks are occurring around the world, the students did not have any knowledge about cybersecurity and the effects of cyberattacks overall. An analysis of cybersecurity awareness was undertaken by asking questions focused on malicious software, passw ...More

Comparison of Online Accessibility Evaluation Tools: An Analysis of Tool Effectiveness

Rita İSMAİLOVA

The use of online tools is a common practice for evaluating the accessibility of a website, identifying problems, and providing useful feedback on how to fix detected issues. For ease of accessibility validation, many tools have been developed and implemented successfully over the years. Yet, the results of these tools show differences in terms of coverage, correctness, and reporting-related issues. In this study, we compared online accessibility evaluation tools to understand to what extent they differ in detecting accessibility problems in websites. A total of 41 government websites of diffe ...More

Harmonic Contribution Detection of Iron and Steel Plants Based on Correlation of Time-Synchronized Current and Voltage Signals

Özgül SALOR-DURNA

In this paper, the problem of detecting the harmonic responsibility of iron and steel (I&S) plants, which are supplied from a point of common coupling (PCC) is addressed. A new harmonic responsibility measure, which does not require the instantaneous impedance measurements, is proposed to present the amount of harmonic responsibility of each plant supplied from the PCC. The algorithm is based primarily on the correlation of voltage and current signals which are measured with a time-synchronized manner at the PCC. The proposed method is first verified using both synthetic data generated in PSCA ...More
