Composite Bows from Uch-kurbu in Kyrgyzstan

The article addresses the topic of composite bows from nomadic sites in Tien Shan and Zhetysu. Horn plates from bows discovered in 2008–2009 at Uch-Kurbu on the Tosor River, the Issyk-Kul Depression (Kyrgyzstan), are described and analyzed. The original design of the wooden core of the bow and the location of horn plates thereon are reconstructed. Communicating with Voters in Social Networks: The Case of 2011 Presidential Elections in Kyrgyzstan

This study analyzes online electoral campaigns of candidates for 2011 Presidential Elections in Kyrgyzstan in order to explore interactivity – as a way for improving participation, information, and interest, and the relationships between civil society and parties – within the websites and social network accounts of the candidates. The election involved 19 candidates to the presidency. Total 13 websites, 5 Facebook accounts, 6 Twitter accounts and 4 Odnoklassniki of candidates were monitored during election campaign period of 25 September and 27 October 2011.

В статье прослежена история изучения сложносоставных луков с памятников среднеазиатских кочевников Тянь-Шаня и Семиречья. Описаны и проанализированы роговые накладки от таких луков из могильника Уч-Курбу, раскопанного в 2008–2009 гг. в долине р. Тосор в Иссык-Кульской котловине (Республика Кыргызстан). Восстановлена первоначальная конструкция кибитей луков и расположение на них роговых накладок. В эпоху раннего железа, Великого переселения народов и в Средние века здесь существовали устойчивые традиции, связанные с поло-жением погребальной пищи рядом с погребенным. При раскопках рядовых курганов раннего железного века часто встречается курдючная часть туши (крестец), которая нередко обнаруживалась и в женских погребениях.
