Selective Electrochemical Determination of L-Cysteine by a Cobalt Carbon Nanotube (CNT)-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE)

Nahit AKTAŞ

L-Cysteine is a semi-essential and proteinogenic amino acid, with the formula HO2CCH (NH2) CH2SH. L-cysteine is mostly found in protein-rich foods. In this study, catalysts consisting of cobalt (Co) supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared using the sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method. These catalysts were characterized by means of energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), and temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) techniques. Characterization results confirmed the successful preparation of the desired catal ...Более

Renewable-based treatment solution of Reactive Blue 21 dye on fly ash as low-cost and sustainable adsorbent

Mehmet KOBYA

This study investigated the removal of Reactive Blue 21 (RB 21) dye from aqueous solutions by adsorption, evaluating the waste fly ash (FA). The effects of the parameters, such as initial dye concentration (100–750 mg/L), initial pH (2.0–8.0), adsorbent dose (1.0–4.0 g/L), and temperature (298–323 K) on the adsorption process were investigated. The optimum initial pH value was 2.0 for the highest RB21 dye removal (75.2 mg/g). At optimized conditions (pH 2.0, an adsorbent dosage of 1.0 g/L, a dye concentration of 750 mg/L, and an equilibrium time of 72 h), the highest adsorption capacity was fo ...Более

Web 2.0 in higher education: Difference in usage and perception between Kazakh and Kyrgyz students

Çinara CUMABAYEVA | Rita İSMAİLOVA

The use of Web 2.0 technologies such as social media and user-generated content and their educational prospective attract the attention of many researchers. The results of the vast majority of these studies suggest that the use of social networks in the educational process can be helpful in increasing the quality of education and making it accessible to more students. In order to clarify the students’ opinions, a survey was conducted among students from various majors at leading universities in two Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The main objective of the study was to deter ...Более

A hitchhiker’s guide: estimates of microbial biomass and microbial gene abundance in soil

Canıl İSKAKOVA

Information on microbial biomass carbon (MBC) is crucial to assess their stocks and role for plant nutrient release in soil. Next to fumigation-extraction, molecular methods are routinely used to estimate the contribution of fungi, bacteria, and archaea to the soil microbial community. However, more information on the links between these different indices would deepen the understanding of microbial processes. The current study is based on 11 datasets, which contain MBC and MBN data obtained by fumigation-extraction and information on bacterial, archaeal, and fungal gene abundance, totalling 76 ...Более

The free amino acid profiling of milk-and cereal-based Kyrgyz ethnic fermented beverages and their contribution to taste formation

Ayçürök MACİTOVA

The present study aimed to determine the content of 18 free amino acids (FAA), including 10 essential amino acids, in traditional fermented beverages and their umami, sweet and bitter taste potential. The FAAs of traditional dairy and cereal-based fermented beverages were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a diode array detector and derivatization with diethyl ethoxymethylenemalonate (DEEMM). FAA content and taste attributes with a focus on umami, sweet and bitter were presented for koumiss, ayran, carbonated ayran, boza, boza with sea buckthorn, and maksym. The ...Более

Application of selected lactic acid bacteria isolates for bread production without baker's yeast

Ayçürök MACİTOVA | Acar Makambay Kızı

The isolates of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from traditional fermented koumiss and homemade dry rye sourdough were examined for their potential to be used in bread production without baker’s yeast. Among twenty isolates, three with superior fermentation ability and acidification capability were identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Leuconostoc mesenteroides from koumiss, Levilactobacillus brevis from 48 h activated rye sourdough, and Leuconostoc citreum from rye sourdough extract were singly and mixed (1:1:1) inoculated into liquid sourdoughs and used for bread-making tests. Bread prepared wi ...Более

Mixed metal oxide (Ru, Ir, Sn) electrodes in the anodic activation of peroxydisulfate for a sustainable degradation of rifampicin

Mehmet KOBYA

Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) are promising approaches to wastewater purification. Anodic oxidation (AO), due to its ease and cost-efficiency, has attracted rising attention in this research area. Herein, we employ Mixed Metal Oxide (MMO) electrodes, including RuIrSnOx@Ti, RuIrOx@Ti, and RuOx@Ti, to activate peroxydisulfate (PDS) in the anodic activation process. The Rifampicin (RIF) pharmaceutical was selected as the model pollutant to be treated in the proposed electrochemical system. The surface and electrochemical characteristics of the electrodes were characterized ...Более

Feeding ration of yaks of the Kyrgyz population and its influence on the biochemical composition of milk

Aygül USUBALİYEVA

Yaks are the large herbivorous ruminants that live in high mountain pastures at altitudes from 2,000 to 4,000 m above sea level. This environment is quite harsh, and yaks calmly tolerate extreme cold — down to minus 40 ºС. The main food of yaks are herbaceous plants, the vegetation season of which in a cold mountain climate is short, about 3–4 months, and therefore they feed mostly on wilted pasture, which is, in principle, sufficient for these animals. At the end of winter, when the amount of pasture feed decreases, the animals become malnourished and lose weight. Therefore, yak farmers often ...Более

Enhanced self-collimation effect by low rotational symmetry in hexagonal lattice photonic crystals

Mirbek TURDUEV

In this study, we present the design of a photonic crystal (PC) structure with a hexagonal lattice, where adjustments to the PC unit cell symmetry reveal an all-angle self-collimation (SC) effect. By optimizing opto-geometric parameters, such as the rotational angle of auxiliary rods and adjacent distances, we analyze the SC property in detail, leveraging group velocity dispersion (GVD) and third-order dispersion (TOD) characteristics. We also investigate the relationship between symmetry properties and their influence on dispersion characteristics. Through symmetry manipulation, we gain a com ...Более

A New Electric Arc Furnace Model Based on Current Waveform Synthesis from Distributions of DFT Amplitudes and Power System Frequency

Özgül SALOR-DURNA

The research work presented in this paper proposes a field-data based method for modeling the behavior of the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) currents for a tap-to-tap period. EAF current DFT distributions and fundamental frequency histograms obtained out of previously collected EAF currents are used to develop the proposed model, which offers a model for each phase of the EAF operation: boring, melting and refining. The model is verified by comparing the THD histograms and the flicker measurements of the original and the modeled EAF current waveforms. The aim of the proposed method is to provide a ...Более

Comparison of the Machigin and CAL Methods for Extraction of Plant Available P in Soils

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA

Fertilizer recommendations for phosphorus (P) are generally based on the soil content of plant available P and the amount of P exported by the harvested crop. In countries of the former Soviet Union (SU), a widespread method is the Machigin extraction. The relationships between soil P contents extracted with this and other European methods are not well established. Here, we compare the Machigin soil P extraction method with the Calcium Ammonium Lactate P(CAL) procedure that is commonly used in Central Europe. Both methods were tested with 94 soil samples originating from Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, a ...Более
