Surgical removal of Coenurus cerebralis cysts located in the brain of sheep

Abuzer TAŞ | İsmail ŞEN | Fatih HATİPOĞLU | Hasan Hüseyin ARI | Ruslan SALIKOV | Nur ABDIMANAP UULU | Ayperi Aytmırza Kızı

Coenurosis caused by Coenurus cerebralis poses a significant economic threat to sheep. To date, no effective treatment has been identified for this parasitic infection once it has settled in the brain. This study aimed to investigate the surgical removal of C. cerebralis cysts from the brains of infected sheep. Twenty sheep were utilized in the experiment, and the animals underwent a 24-hour fasting period before the surgical procedure. Various biochemical parameters, including TP, ALP, BUN, AST, CK, LDH, RBC, WBC, Hb, and Hct, were measured in the animals both before and one month after the o ...Более

Selective Electrochemical Determination of L-Cysteine by a Cobalt Carbon Nanotube (CNT)-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE)

Nahit AKTAŞ

L-Cysteine is a semi-essential and proteinogenic amino acid, with the formula HO2CCH (NH2) CH2SH. L-cysteine is mostly found in protein-rich foods. In this study, catalysts consisting of cobalt (Co) supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared using the sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method. These catalysts were characterized by means of energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), and temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) techniques. Characterization results confirmed the successful preparation of the desired catal ...Более

Exploring the impact of university support on students' entrepreneurial intentions: evidence from Kyrgyzstan

Azamat MAKSUDUNOV

Whether university support is meaningful in increasing students' entrepreneurial intentions (EI) remains largely under-investigated, especially in the context of Central Asian countries. In this study, we attempted to address this question by examining the effects of university support (comprised of educational support, concept development support, and business development support) on students' EI. We employed a structured questionnaire to collect data from 793 student respondents enrolled in 13 universities in Kyrgyzstan and performed descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Our anal ...Более

A 2,2-dichloropropionic acid-degrading novel Pseudomonas fluorescence strain fatsa001: isolation, identification, and characterization

Gülbübü KURMANBEKOVA | Yılmaz KAYA

There are mounting concerns over the high concentrations of non-biogenic, toxic halogenated organic compounds being liberated into the ecosystem. Therefore, this study’s isolation of a novel bacterium from a contaminated stream in Fatsa, Ordu, Turkey, adept in degrading 2,2-dichloropropionic (of 2,2-DCP) is a welcome endeavor. The ability of the bacterial isolate to utilize 2,2-DCP as the sole carbon and energy source was discovered when the bacterium was observed to grow well on liquid minimal media containing 20 mM of 2,2-DCP, showing a doubling time of 14.2 h. The following genetic and bioc ...Более

Antecedents of cave visitors' revisit intentions in the context of self-determination theory: a case study on Dupnisa Cave visitors in Turkey

Mustafa Murat KIZANLIKLI

Based on self-determination theory as a conceptual framework, the aim of this study is to reveal the relationships amongst cave visitors' experiences, motivation, satisfaction and revisit intention. In order to test the conceptual model designed in line with the objectives of the study, a survey was conducted amongst a sample of 312 visitors to Dupnisa Cave in Turkey. The analysis showed that visitors' motivation and cave experience positively influenced their satisfaction. Moreover, satisfaction has an effect on visitors' revisit intention. This study is one of the first to attempt to reveal ...Более

In vitro and in vivo screening of bacterial species from contaminated soil for heavy metal biotransformation activity

Tinatin DOOLOTKELDİEVA | Mahabat KONURBAYEVA | Saykal BOBUŞOVA

Heavy metals (HMs) are widely used in various industries. High concentrations of HMs can be severely toxic to plants, animals and humans. Microorganism-based bioremediation has shown significant potential in degrading and detoxifying specific HM contaminants. In this study, we cultivated a range of bacterial strains in liquid and solid nutrient medium containing different concentrations of different HMs to select and analyze bacteria capable of transforming HMs. The bacterial strains most resistant to selected HMs and exhibiting the ability to remove HMs from contaminated soils were identified ...Более

In situ microbial bioremediation of obsolete pesticides at their disposal sites

Tinatin DOOLOTKELDİEVA | Mahabat KONURBAYEVA | Saykal BOBUŞOVA

Soil pollution by pesticides is a global problem in many countries, including Kyrgyzstan. Currently, 50 storage facilities for obsolete banned pesticides exist, severely threatening the surrounding populations and environment. In this study, in situ bioremediation technology was used to remove pesticide contamination from soil around the storage facilities. Three conditions were tested: application of fertile soil and bioproduct, application of fertile soil and no bioproduct (Control 1), and application of fertile soil and no bioproduct (Control 2). An aerobic bioremediation approach was used: ...Более

Prospects of continuity and change of China's role in Central Asia: Case studies of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan

Yunus Emre GÜRBÜZ

This study evaluates the prospects for continuity and change of People's Republic of China's role in Central Asia in relation with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). There have been significant global, regional, and national events between 2020 and 2022, which might alter China's position in Central Asia. The possibility of change can be estimated by examining the developments so far. China's position in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are taken here as examples for China's role. The One Belt One Road initiative, renamed in 2016 as the BRI, presents multiple trade routes, some of which pass through ...Более

Comparison of the Machigin and CAL Methods for Extraction of Plant Available P in Soils

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA

Fertilizer recommendations for phosphorus (P) are generally based on the soil content of plant available P and the amount of P exported by the harvested crop. In countries of the former Soviet Union (SU), a widespread method is the Machigin extraction. The relationships between soil P contents extracted with this and other European methods are not well established. Here, we compare the Machigin soil P extraction method with the Calcium Ammonium Lactate P(CAL) procedure that is commonly used in Central Europe. Both methods were tested with 94 soil samples originating from Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, a ...Более
