Bioremediation approaches for oil contaminated soils in extremely high-mountainous conditions

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA | Ciyde TOKPAEVA | Canarbek İZAKOV | Mirlan MOLDOBAYEV

Development of methods for bioremediation of soils contaminated with petroleum products is one of the most urgent tasks of our time. This task is more difficult to perform in high-mountainous landscapes, at an altitude of more than 4 000 m a.s.l. Moreover, these high-mountain ecosystems are the most vulnerable to various kinds of anthropogenic impacts, and therefore the relevance of bioremediation is obvious. The research was conducted in the high-altitude ecosystems of the Kyrgyz Republic at the Kumtor mine. In this study was carried out on the bioremediation of oil contaminated soil using bi ...Более

A new binary genetic programming approach to designing public transportation systems according to transit-oriented development criteria

Hasan YILMAZ

This study introduces a new evolutionary approach called Binary Genetic Programming (BGP) to design and assess public transportation systems from a sustainable development perspective. The BGP combines evolutionary system identi cation techniques with k-fold cross-validation to obtain an accurate model between the land use and transportation parameters from a sustainable urban development point of view. To assess the new model, two public transportation systems including the new tram line of Antalya (Turkey) and the bus rapid transit line of Bhopal (India) were considered. The model was employ ...Более

Ecological aspects in the use of soil enzymes as indicators of anthropogenic soil pollution

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA

In the contemporary era, with rapid industrial growth and urbanisation, analysing the impact of human activities on soil enzyme activity becomes crucial. The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of anthropogenic pollution on enzyme activity in soil. Research on enzyme activity levels in the soil in the city of Kara-Balta, Chuy Region, Kyrgyz Republic, was conducted using biochemical analyses and specific enzymatic tests. The results revealed significant diversity in catalase activity in different soil samples. Some samples exhibited high activity, while others showed low activity. ...Более

Effect of Mentha caucasica on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

Erdoğan ŞEKER

This study was conducted to determine the effect of Mentha caucasica on growth performance and carcass characteristics in Japanese quails. A total of 150 day old Japanese quail chicks were used in the study. The quails were allocated to 3 groups each comprising 50 animals including the control group, mint group I (given feed added with 0.75% of mint) and mint group II (given feed added with 1.5% of mint). Statistically significant differences were determined between the feeding groups for the body weights measured on days 35 and 42 (p

Morphometric development and changes in the growth and development dynamics of Japanese quail populations bred in Kyrgyzstan

Askarbek TÜLÖBAEV | Hasan ALPAK

The purpose of the present study was to determine the live weight development phases from hatchling to adolescent bird of Japanese quails bred in Kyrgyzstan, and to determine the age-related changes in body measurements. Adolescent birds were found to have a body length (distance between first vertebra thoracalis to end of sacrum) coefficient of 3.0, a sternum front to rear end length coefficient of 3.3, a tibia length of 2.34, and a pelvic width (distance between right and left acetabulum) coefficient of 1.58. This indicates good development of the quails Keywords: Growth and development, liv ...Более

Dynamics of Microbiological Diversity of Soils in the Chu Valley during Land Use Change in Pastures

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA

Soil microflora is one of the first to feel a negative impact and can serve as a biological indicator of changes in the soil structure and the degree of impact on the soil ecosystem. In 2020, studies were carried out at two sites located in the Shamshy Gorge in the Chui region of the Kyrgyz Republic. One of the plots was withdrawn from pasture use for one year in 2020 and two years in 2019 as compared to the actively used control option. The microbiological diversity was studied with conventional methods of microbiology. The micromycetes of the studied soils were represented in the dominance o ...Более

Investigation of genetic diversity of squash (Cucurbita maxima Duchesne) genotypes collected from Erzincan in Turkey

Atilla DURSUN

Plant genetic resources constitute the most valuable assets of countries. It is of great importance to determine the genetic variation among these resources and to use the data in breeding studies. Cucurbita maxima species in the Cucurbitaceae family have high genetic diversity, but molecular genetic diversity studies of this species are insufficient in Turkey. To determine the genetic diversity among genotypes of Cucurbita maxima species of squash, which is widely grown in Erzincan, 14 different squash genotypes collected were examined based on the morphological parameters and molecular chara ...Более

Tuta absoluta continues to disperse in Asia: damage, ongoing management and future challenges

Tair Esenalı Uulu

Since its initial detection in Turkey in 2009, the invasive destructive pest South American tomato pinworm Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) has started its new invasion journey to east and invaded most Asian countries. This pest currently causes extensive damage to tomato production and potentially threatens key production areas such as China. To provide an overview of current status of T. absoluta in Asia, we have briefly reviewed the damage and economic impacts by this pest locally and discussed why this species has spread so rapidly among the countries. Moreover, ongoing i ...Более

Isolation and genetic characterization of Erwinia amylovora bacteria from Kyrgyzstan

Tinatin DOOLOTKELDİEVA | Saykal BOBUŞOVA | Mahabat KONURBAYEVA

Fire Blight, an economically relevant disease of apple, pear, and quince trees that is caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Erwinia amylovora, was first reported from Kyrgyzstan in 2008. One decade later, the disease has spread across the northern part of the country, affecting fruit orchards mainly in Chuy and Issyk-kul regions. Using semi-selective cultural media, bacteria have been isolated from plant material sampled in infested orchards from different locations in Kyrgyzstan, and 16S rRNA gene sequence determination together with diagnostic PCR have been used to identify E. amylovora bac ...Более

Genetic characterization of Erwinia amylovora isolates detected in the wild walnut-fruit forest of South Kyrgyzstan

Tinatin DOOLOTKELDİEVA | Saykal BOBUŞOVA

Erwinia amylovora, the causal agent of fire blight, was first reported in Kyrgyz orchards in 2008 and, within a few years, the disease has spread throughout most of the northern part of the country. As fire blight expanded and penetrated new areas, it also reached the unique ecosystem constituted by the Arslonbob wild walnut-fruit forests in South Kyrgyzstan. Here, we present the results of field surveys in the forests and in the nearby orchards and gardens of the Jalal-Abad region during the 2019 season. Further, we use genetic profiling of the CRISPR regions to compare the genotypes of the o ...Более

The utility ofTrichodermaspp. isolates to control ofXylosandrus germanusBlandford (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae)

İsmail ERPER

The invasive ambrosia beetle,Xylosandrus germanusBlandford (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), is a serious pest of hazelnut in Turkey, which is the biggest hazelnut producer in the world. In this study, the utility of four isolates representing differentTrichodermaspecies (T. harzianum,T. hamatum,T. asperellum, andT. atroviride) was evaluated on survival, gallery behavior and brood production ofX. germanusby effecting the symbiotic fungal development at laboratory conditions. Hazelnut branches were exposed to fungal suspensions (1 x 10(6)and 1 x 10(8)conidia mL(-1)doses) for about 30 s. ...Более
