Lichens as Biomonitors of Air Pollutants Deposition: Strategically Important Element Pollution

Ali ASLAN

Investigation of various species of lichen as biomonitors of air pollutants deposition and evaluation of element pollution were aimed. Maximum accumulation was 43.9±2.1 mg/kg in X. somloensis. Strontium in lichen species was quite high. Percentages of strontium for L.pulmonaria, C.furcata, U.longissima, X.somloensis, and F.caperata were between 58 and 78 indicating the efficient accumulation of strontium. Lichens were also accumulated strategically important elements. Maximum contamination factors in lichens were for strontium and tantalum. Maximum contamination factors of hafnium, niobium, li ...Дагы

Determination of some trace elements in various lichens as biomonitors of pollution and assessment of pollution status

Ali ASLAN

Some trace elements in various lichens as biomonitors of pollution were investigated. Also, the pollution status was assessed by enrichment factor, contamination factor, and pollution load index. Investigated elements were Ta, Bi, Hf, Nb, Ga, Sc, Li, Y, Ce, and Sr. The lichen species were Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca, Umbilicaria vellea, Aspicilia calcarea, Pseudevernia furfuracea, and Cetraria islandica. According to the results, lichen species accumulate Sr element well. The highest trace element accumulated by Pseudevernia furfuracea (21.7±1.0 mg/kg; 75), Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca (31.9±1.6 mg/kg; 6 ...Дагы

Potential human health risks of toxic/harmful elements by consumption of Pseudevernia furfuracea

Ali ASLAN

The potential human health risks of some toxic/harmful elements related to the consumption of Pseudevernia furfuracea (L.) Zopf. were investigated. The toxic/harmful elements (cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn)) were determined in P. furfuracea. According to the analysis result, the maximum (max.) toxic/harmful element value was 62 +/- 3.1 mg/kg for Mn and minimum (min.) value was 0.19 +/- 0.01 mg/kg for Cd. The estimated daily exposure doses (EDEXDs) for men, women and children were dietary (bread) > dietary (tea) > dermal. For diet ...Дагы

In vitro evaluation of cytotoxic, oxidative, genotoxic, and apoptotic activities of physodic acid from Pseudevernia furfuracea in HepG2 and THLE2 cells

Ali ASLAN

In the present study, cytotoxic (apoptotic and necrotic), antioxidant, prooxidant, genotoxic, and apoptosis-related genes expression modulatory effects of physodic acid (PA) isolated from Pseudevernia furfuracea on cancerous (HepG2) and healthy (THLE2) human liver cells were evaluated. Cytotoxic effects PA obtained from P. furfuracea on HepG2 and THLE2 cells were tested via MTT and LDH analyses. In order to determine genotoxic effect of PA, 8-OH-dG levels in the cells were measured. In addition, apoptotic or necrotic effects of PA on the hepatic cells were determined by qRT-PCR analysis. Cytot ...Дагы

Investigation of the allelopathic effects of lyophilized ethanol extract of Xanthoparmelia somloensis (Gyelnik) Hale lichen on tomato plant

Ali ASLAN

All organisms in nature interact and compete with each other. Various groups of organisms such as algae, lichens, crops and weeds have been found as allelopathic interaction and it is known that lichens have many potent secondary metabolites. The aim of this study was to determine the allelopathic effects of lyophilized ethanolic extract of Xanthoparmelia somloensis (Gyelnik) Hale lichen (XS) on tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) germination and early development stage. Obtained lyophilized ethanolic extracts of XS lichen at concentrations of 50 ppm (XS-50), 100 ppm (XS-100), 200 ppm (XS-200) ...Дагы

Investigation of antiepileptic potentials of usnic acid and some lichen species on the behavioral and biochemical levels in pentylenetetrazole-induced kindling model of epilepsy

Ali ASLAN

In this study, the effects of various lichen and usnic acid applications on seizure scores and biochemical parameters in brain tissue in rats with epilepsy model was investigated. For this aim, 91 rats were divided into 13 groups, each containing 7 rats, which were: control, pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) (35 mg/kg), PTZ Valproic acid (100 mg/kg), PTZ Dolichousnea longissima (200 mg/kg), PTZ Dolichousnea longissima (400 mg/kg), PTZ Xanthoparmelia somloensis (50 mg/kg), PTZ Xanthoparmelia somloensis (200 mg/kg), PTZ Cetraria islandica (250 mg/kg), PTZ Cetraria islandica (500 mg/kg), PTZ Pseudevernia ...Дагы

Lichens and Lichenicolous Fungi from Muş Province in Turkey

Ali ASLAN

A contribution to the lichen flora of Turkey is presented. A total of 282 lichen taxa and 20 lichenicolous fungi, of which 4 are varieties, are determined from 87 different localities in Muş province (Turkey). Lichenostigmagracile, a lichenicolous fungus, is new to Turkey, and 274 lichen species and 20 lichenicolous fungi are new for Muş.

Heavy Metals in Cetraria islandica: Health Risk Assessment

Ali ASLAN

In this chapter, potential human health risk of the heavy metals associated with usage of Cetraria islandica were evaluated. Heavy metals (lead, cadmium, manganese, chromium, copper, zinc, and nickel) were determined in Cetraria islandica. Highest and lowest heavy metal values were 87 ± 4.3 mg/kg for manganese (Mn) and 0.12 ± 0.01 mg/kg for cadmium (Cd). When potential health risk was assessed, the doses of exposure for man, woman, and child followed the order of bread > tea > dermal. Risk of health for bread and tea were child > woman > man. Also, risk of health for dermal was woman > child > ...Дагы

Lichens and lichenicolous fungi from Bitlis province in Turkey

Ali ASLAN

As a result of lichenological exploration in Bitlis province (Turkey), a total of 325 lichens and 21 lichenicolous fungi, which are belonging 113 genera in Ascomycota were determined from 92 different localities. Buellia vouauxii, a lichenicolous fungus, and is new to Turkey and also new for Asia. Aspicilia glomerulans, Llimoniella muralicola, Myriolecis invadens, Ochrolechia subviridis, Placynthium hungaricum and Placynthium posterulum were reported for the second time from Turkey. Collecting localities and their substrata are presented.
