Characterization of a 2,2-dichloropropionic acid (2,2-dcp) degrading alkalotorelant bacillus megaterium strain bhs1 isolated from blue lake in Turkey

Yılmaz KAYA

An acid, 2,2-dichloropropionic acid (2,2-DCP) is an active ingredient in herbicide (Dalapon®). Using 2,2-DCP as a model substrate, an alkalotolerant bacterium was successfully isolated from the Blue Lake, Turkey. This bacterium is a potential bioremediation agent of recalcitrant xenobiotic halogenated compounds. This study aimed to prove the efficacy of the alkalotolerance Bacillus megaterium BHS1 in degrading 2,2-DCP as the sole source of carbon. Biolog GEN III system and 16S rRNA analysis were used for the identification of the bacterium. It was discovered that the strain BHS1 is Bacillus m ...More

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA

This investigation enlightens the original data on the ecological situation of Makmal Valley and neighboring villages Makmal and Chetbulak Toguz-Toro in “Makmalzoloto” gold mining area in Kyrgyzstan. The study was undertaken to put forward the possibilities for preservation of rich biodiversity and ecological state in these villages. The area is under pressure from the activities of gold extraction. Even today environmental pollution and high levels of radiation are observed. The extraction activity has seriously damaged and produced a negative impact on pastures, livestock, as well as biodive ...More

Plant Diversity of Ala-Archa National Park in Kyrgyzstan with Emphasis on Its Economical Potential

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA | Zeki SEVEROĞLU | Gülbübü KURMANBEKOVA

The national parks are the most important tools in biodiversity conservation. The generally include remote and rugged areas possessing a low possibility for human use. They are of lower economic value. Currently the Republic of Kyrgyzstan possesses a total of eight national parks. These cover approximately 1.4 of national territory. One of these national parks is the Ala-Archa National Park. During the period covering the months from May to October, every weekend hundreds of visitors pay a visit to this oldest national park of the country established in 1976. The 25 km long park has a total ar ...More

Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Plant Diversity of Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve in Kyrgyzstan

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA | Zeki SEVEROĞLU

The Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve established in 1959 with an area of 239 km2 and declared as a UNESCO-MAB Biosphere Reserve in 1978 is located on the southeast-facing slope of the northern Chatkal Range in central Jalalabad province. It is centered around the scenic Sary-Chelek Lake. The mountains immediately surrounding the lake abound in exceptionally diverse flora and fauna, what may be the widest variety found in the Tian Shan. The area is spread over varied ecosystems and habitats, which include the forests of spruce and juniper together with the forests of wild fruits and nuts and riparian ...More

Exploring of the ameliorative effects of Nerium (Nerium oleander L.) ethanolic flower extract in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats via biochemical, histological and molecular aspects

Ali ASLAN

Background: Nerium oleander L. is ethnopharmacologically used for diabetes. Our aim was to investigate the ameliorative effects of ethanolic Nerium flower extract (NFE) in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Methods: Seven random groups including control group, NFE group (50 mg/kg), diabetic group, glibenclamide group and NFE treated groups (25 mg/kg, 75 mg/kg, and 225 mg/kg) were composed of forty-nine rats. Blood glucose level, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), insulin level, liver damage parameters and lipid profile parameters were investigated. Antioxidant defense system enzyme activities and reduced gl ...More

Çeltiğe ilginin artmasına; nüfus artışı, ekonom ...More

Investigation of the allelopathic effects of lyophilized ethanol extract of Xanthoparmelia somloensis (Gyelnik) Hale lichen on tomato plant

Ali ASLAN

All organisms in nature interact and compete with each other. Various groups of organisms such as algae, lichens, crops and weeds have been found as allelopathic interaction and it is known that lichens have many potent secondary metabolites. The aim of this study was to determine the allelopathic effects of lyophilized ethanolic extract of Xanthoparmelia somloensis (Gyelnik) Hale lichen (XS) on tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) germination and early development stage. Obtained lyophilized ethanolic extracts of XS lichen at concentrations of 50 ppm (XS-50), 100 ppm (XS-100), 200 ppm (XS-200) ...More

Comparative modeling and enzymatic affinity of novel haloacid dehalogenase from Bacillus megaterium strain BHS1 isolated from alkaline Blue Lake in Turkey

Yılmaz KAYA

This study presents the initial structural model of L-haloacid dehalogenase (DehLBHS1) from Bacillus megaterium BHS1, an alkalotolerant bacterium known for its ability to degrade halogenated environmental pollutants. The model provides insights into the structural features of DehLBHS1 and expands our understanding of the enzymatic mechanisms involved in the degradation of these hazardous pollutants. Key amino acid residues (Arg40, Phe59, Asn118, Asn176, and Trp178) in DehLBHS1 were identified to play critical roles in catalysis and molecular recognition of haloalkanoic acid, essential for effi ...More
