10XSBF Bone-Like Hydroxyapatite Coating of Ti-6Al-4V with Microwave Irradiation and its Antibacterial Properties

Mustafa DOLAZ

The surfaces of titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) implants, which are widely preferred as implant material in medicine and dentistry, are biomimetically coated with nanohydroxyapatite (nHAp) in simulated body fluid (10XSBF) with microwave-assisted 10-f time concentration solution. A second layer was formed with different amounts of non-toxic AgNO3 to impart antibacterial properties to the implant materials coated with nHAp. In comparison of uncoated implants with nHAp and Ag-coated Ti-6Al-4V implants, surface morphologies were evaluated by SEM analysis, phase grade and structure were evaluated by XRD, and ...More

A Nonlinear Panel ARDL Analysis of Pollution Haven/Halo Hypothesis

Zamira ÖSKÖNBAYEVA

There is a growing popularity for the nonlinear econometric approaches, since linkages among variables are not always linear. Nonlinear approaches provide a broader range of knowledge compared to the linear model. This research aims to assess the impact of foreign direct investment on pollution. To capture the potential asymmetries resulting from rise and fall in the foreign direct investments, the nonlinear panel autoregressive distributed lag approach is employed. In the empirical analysis, annual data of selected 22 transition economies from 1995 to 2016 is utilized. The findings highlighte ...More

Analysis of Article Methodologies on Financial Statements’ Transparency Between the Years 2000 and 2016

Bilal SOLAK

Accounting scandals that took place in the last quarter of the twentieth century such as the one at ENRON and PARMALAT prove the importance of transparency and objectivity for the presentation of financial statements. Accounting researchers all over Turkey and other countries have started to publish more studies using different kinds of methodologies on providing transparency for the financial statements due to the scandals. Published work by accounting scientists is extraordinarily crucial both for accounting theory and shaping accounting applications. In this research, article methodologies ...More

Approximate Solution of the System of Linear Volterra-Stieltjes Integral Equations of the Second Kind

Avıt ASANOV | Kalıskan MATANOVA

A numerical solution of the system of linear Volterra–Stieltjes integral equations of the second kind has been found and analyzed using the so-called generalized trapezoid rule. Conditions for estimating the error have also been determined and justified. A solution of an example obtained using the proposed method is given.

Characterization of cereal cyst nematodes in wheat using morphometrics, SCAR markers, RFLP, and rDNA-ITS sequence analyses

Şenol YILDIZ

In this study, morphological and molecular characterizations of twenty-four Heterodera populations (cereal cyst nematodes, CCNs) collected from wheat production fields in Turkey were carried out. Light microscopy, species-specific markers, RFLP, and ITS sequencing were used to identify the nematode populations. The obtained CCN populations were identified as Heterodera avenae, H. filipjevi, and H. latipons according to the morphometric analysis, which was confirmed by the molecular techniques. The ITS region sequencing analysis confirmed the species identification, and phylogenetic analysis of ...More

Ecology and Environmental Aspects of “Makmalzoloto” Gold Mining Area in Kyrgyzstan

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA

This investigation enlightens the original data on the ecological situation of Makmal Valley and neighboring villages Makmal and Chetbulak Toguz-Toro in “Makmalzoloto” gold mining area in Kyrgyzstan. The study was undertaken to put forward the possibilities for preservation of rich biodiversity and ecological state in these villages. The area is under pressure from the activities of gold extraction. Even today environmental pollution and high levels of radiation are observed. The extraction activity has seriously damaged and produced a negative impact on pastures, livestock, as well as biodive ...More

E-Government Development in the Central Asian States: Best Practices, Challenges and Lessons Learned

Ulan BRİMKULOV | Kasım BARIKTABASOV

Many states of the world are developing e-government to raise operating efficiency, better service delivery to citizens, and reduce corruption. But successful development of e-government depends on many factors, such as the level of economic development, the development level of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure, the ICT literacy of citizens, legal framework, political leadership etc. This chapter attempts to confirm this statement using the example of the Central Asian states. The chapter also describes best practices, main challenges and obstacles, and lesson ...More

Interactive effects of cold and temperate conditions on growth and biochemical content of Antarctic microalga Chlorella variabilis YTU.ANTARCTIC.001

Yılmaz KAYA

The aim of this study was to isolate and identify Antarctica microalgae collected through the National Antarctic Science Expedition and to examine the growth responses and biochemical contents of Chlorella variabilis under cold and temperate cultivation conditions in growth medium consisting of various nitrogen concentrations under different lighting cycle parameters. In this study, the Antarctic microalgae Chlorella variabilis YTU.ANTARCTIC.001, was cultivated at different temperatures of 4, 13, 20 and 27 °C in modified BG-11 medium with various concentrations of NaNO3 (0, 0.75, 1.5, 2.5 and ...More

Ordinary differential equations with power boundary layers

Asan ÖMÜRALİEV | Ella ABILAYEVA

The regularized asymptotics of a solution of the Cauchy problem for systems of singularly perturbed ordinary differential equations is constructed. It is shown that a power boundary layer appears in such problems in addition to other boundary layers.

Plant Diversity of Ala-Archa National Park in Kyrgyzstan with Emphasis on Its Economical Potential

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA | Zeki SEVEROĞLU | Gülbübü KURMANBEKOVA

The national parks are the most important tools in biodiversity conservation. The generally include remote and rugged areas possessing a low possibility for human use. They are of lower economic value. Currently the Republic of Kyrgyzstan possesses a total of eight national parks. These cover approximately 1.4 of national territory. One of these national parks is the Ala-Archa National Park. During the period covering the months from May to October, every weekend hundreds of visitors pay a visit to this oldest national park of the country established in 1976. The 25 km long park has a total ar ...More

Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Plant Diversity of Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve in Kyrgyzstan

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA | Zeki SEVEROĞLU

The Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve established in 1959 with an area of 239 km2 and declared as a UNESCO-MAB Biosphere Reserve in 1978 is located on the southeast-facing slope of the northern Chatkal Range in central Jalalabad province. It is centered around the scenic Sary-Chelek Lake. The mountains immediately surrounding the lake abound in exceptionally diverse flora and fauna, what may be the widest variety found in the Tian Shan. The area is spread over varied ecosystems and habitats, which include the forests of spruce and juniper together with the forests of wild fruits and nuts and riparian ...More

Regularization of the Singularly Perturbed Cauchy Problem for a Hyperbolic System

Asan ÖMÜRALİEV | Ella ABILAYEVA

In this paper we construct the asymptotics of the solution of the Cauchy problem for a singularly perturbed hyperbolic system by using the regularization method for singularly perturbed problems of S.A. Lomov. The regularization method for singularly perturbed problems of S.A. Lomov is used for the first time to construct the asymptotic solution of a hyperbolic system.
