In this study, it was aimed to determine asprosin levels in pregnant and non-pregnant cows and to determine the relationship between some biochemical parameters and asprosin levels. For this purpose, 60 Simmental cows were divided into two groups as pregnant (n30) and non- pregnant cows on the postpartum 15th day (n30), and asprosin levels and biochemical parameters were measured by taking blood from the cows once. Measured biochemical parameters were Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), Amylase, Creatine kinase myocardial band (CK-MB), Creatine kinase N-acetyl cysteine (CK-NAC), Gamma glutamyl transfe ...More
Teat canal stenosis is a significant factor that impedes milking and can lead to cows being unable to rear. Because the methods applied in the treatment of teat canal stenosis are mostly unsuccessful, animals with the disease are usually removed from breeding. In this case, it causes great damage to the livestock economy in the world. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of the veterinary argon plasma coagulation device, a newly developed treatment for teat canal stenosis. A two-stage study was conducted for this purpose. In the first stage, as a material, 30 teats from 30 cows of varyin ...More
The Metrisor device has been developed using gas sensors for rapid, highly accurate and effective diagnosis of metritis. 513 cattle uteri were collected from abattoirs and swabs were taken for microbiological testing. The Metrisor device was used to measure intrauterine gases. The results showed a bacterial growth rate of 75.75 in uteri with clinical metritis. In uteri positive for clinical metritis, the most commonly isolated and identified bacteria were Trueperella pyogenes, Fusobacterium necrophorum and Escherichia coli. Measurements taken with Metrisor to determine the presence of metritis ...More
The aims of this study were to determine the factors that affect follicle size at the time of artificial insemination (AI) and to detect the relationship between ovulatory follicle size at the time of AI and pregnancy rate in dairy cows. A total of 1428 follicle size measurements were obtained from Holstein-Friesian (HF) and Swedish Red (SR) cows that were inseminated with the fixed-timed AI protocols used in this study. Follicle size was affected by breed (P - 0.0001), milk production (P - 0.01), parity (P - 0.05), and season (P = 0.04). Follicle size was greater (P = 0.0001) in the HF (15.55 ...More
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of three different dietary starch levels on postpartum milk yield, blood metabolites, and reproductive traits in cows. A total of 23 primiparous Holstein-Friesian cows were fed three different diets including different starch levels on a dry matter basis from parturition until day 80. Cows were randomly assigned into the three groups according to the starch levels: low (LS, 16%, n = 7), medium (MS, 20%, n = 8), and high (HS, 24%, n = 8). Milk yields were recorded daily, and body condition score (BCS) was determined every week. Transrectal ultr ...More
The aim of this study was to investigate the some trace mineral values on hoof in cows with hoof disease and comparison with healthy ones. Twenty-three Holstein dairy cows (hoof disease group (HD, 18 cases); control group (C, 5 cases) were studied. Determinations of Pb, Fe, Ni, Zn, Cd, Cu and Mn in the samples were carried out by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. Lead, Fe, Ni, Cd, Cu and Mn values were higher in group HD than group C, but just Pb, Ni, Cd, and Cu values were statistically significant. Zn value was lower significantly in group HD than group C. Sole ulcer ...More
Backround: Milk is produced at the cost of other metabolic processes in the body and high milk yield has been associated with lameness and claw lesions. Lameness has also been associated with a decrease in milk yield. In the past, claw disorders and lameness in dairy cattle have been an increasing problem of the modern dairy industry. Hoof trimming is performed to prevent hoof lesions and improve gait by correction and maintenance of the hoof symmetry and shape. Lameness caused by hoof disorders can be treated by correct hoof trimming. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that one- ...More
The aim of this study to determine the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance in milk according to the bacterial species that cause subclinical mastitis in cows. The California Mastitis Test (CMT) was applied to the selected cows. The cows were divided into four groups: cows with negative CMT (n = 45); Escherichia coli (E. coli) group included only cows with E. coli growing in CMT-positive milk samples (n = 45); Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae) group included cows with only S. agalactiae growing in CMT-positive milk samples (n = 45); Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) group included cows with only S. ...More
The aim of the present study was to determine asprosin levels in cows, the relationship of this hormone with postpartum disorders and fl-hydroxybutyric acid, and also the potential of asprosin to be a marker for postpartum diseases. The study was designed as a two-stage trial. In the first stage, blood asprosin and fl-hydroxybutyric acid levels of 20 healthy Simmental cows aged 3???4 years were measured at the time of calving, and on days 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 postpartum. In the second stage, 200 cows were divided into two groups: (1) healthy (n = 100) and (2) diseased (placental retention, hypoc ...More
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between mastitis and supramammary lymph nodes in lactating cows in terms of Pulsed-wave (PW) Doppler ultrasonographical measurements. A total of 102 head cows in lactation period were divided into three groups. The cows in which all mammary lobes were California mastitis test (CMT)-negative (n 27) formed the 1st group; those with CMT-positive mammary lobe (n 43) formed the 2nd group and the cows with clinical mastitis in at least one mammary lobe (n 32) formed the 3rd group. In PW Doppler ultrasonography, end-diastolic velocity, systoli ...More
