Findings of parasitological and doppler echocardiographic examination in dogs with heartworm disease = Kalp kurdu ile enfekte köpeklerde parazitolojik ve Doppler ekokardiografik muayene bulguları

Murat KİBAR

The purpose of the study reported here was to determine echocardiographic findings in naturally heartworm-infected dogs, and evaluate these findings to use in the diagnosis of adult worms in the pulmonary artery. Sixteen male dogs (8.8%) of the 180 dogs in our study, weighing 7.5-42.0 kg, ranging in age from 1 to 8 years, were determined to be positive for Dirofilaria immitis according to the results of membrane filtration and antigen ELISA tests. Dogs identified with adult heartworms in their blood were evaluated by parasitological. The mean worm burden in infected dogs was 4730 ± 5479 (min: ...More

Congenital Glaucoma in Two Cats and Surgical Repair with Trabeculectomy

Murat KİBAR

This current work aims to assess the efficacy and tolerability of trabeculectomy procedure for the management of congenital glaucoma in two cats. Filtration surgery was performed using a limbus-based approach, and flap was raised smoothly to nearly limbus on sclera. Sclera-corneal trabecular block was removed both with surgical knife and microsurgery scissors. Successful result was defined as resolution of leakage with no need for additional surgery, together with maintaining intraocular pressure in the range of 5-21 mmHg with anti-glaucoma medications. In conclusion, trabeculectomy decreased ...More

Is level of trace minerals important for healthy hoof in dairy cows?

Murat KİBAR

The aim of this study was to investigate the some trace mineral values on hoof in cows with hoof disease and comparison with healthy ones. Twenty-three Holstein dairy cows (hoof disease group (HD, 18 cases); control group (C, 5 cases) were studied. Determinations of Pb, Fe, Ni, Zn, Cd, Cu and Mn in the samples were carried out by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. Lead, Fe, Ni, Cd, Cu and Mn values were higher in group HD than group C, but just Pb, Ni, Cd, and Cu values were statistically significant. Zn value was lower significantly in group HD than group C. Effect of Hoof Trimming on Milk Yield in Dairy Cows with Foot Disease

Murat KİBAR

Backround: Milk is produced at the cost of other metabolic processes in the body and high milk yield has been associated with lameness and claw lesions. Lameness has also been associated with a decrease in milk yield. In the past, claw disorders and lameness in dairy cattle have been an increasing problem of the modern dairy industry. Hoof trimming is performed to prevent hoof lesions and improve gait by correction and maintenance of the hoof symmetry and shape. Lameness caused by hoof disorders can be treated by correct hoof trimming. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that one- ...More

Treatment of ophidism-induced bilateral canine cataract by extracapsular lens extraction and intraocular lens implantation

Murat KİBAR

A 3-year-old male mongrel dog was referred to our clinic for the assessment of cataract in both eyes. The dog was bitten by a snake nearly 4 months ago. A 40 dioptre acrylic lens with 13 mm haptics was implanted into the lens capsule. In the left eye, posterior synechia was detected in the temporal part of the iris, but decentration of the intraocular lens was not observed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of bilateral cataract caused by ophidism and treated by surgic ...More
