Analysis of genotype by environment interaction to identify high-yielding and stable oilseed rape genotypes using the GGE-biplot model

Hossein ZEİNALZADEH TABRİZİ

Spring oilseed rape is one of the major oilseed crops produced in different regions of Iran's tropical climates. Because of the various climatic and geographical conditions of the tropical areas of Iran, it is necessary to release high-yielding cultivars with broad adaptability to the various tropical regions. The main objective of this study was to identify high-yielding and stable spring oilseed rape genotypes among some new oilseed rape genotypes via analysis of genotype by environment interaction using the GGE biplot model. To this end, multi environmental trials (METs) were conducted acro ...More

A new binary genetic programming approach to designing public transportation systems according to transit-oriented development criteria

Hasan YILMAZ

This study introduces a new evolutionary approach called Binary Genetic Programming (BGP) to design and assess public transportation systems from a sustainable development perspective. The BGP combines evolutionary system identi cation techniques with k-fold cross-validation to obtain an accurate model between the land use and transportation parameters from a sustainable urban development point of view. To assess the new model, two public transportation systems including the new tram line of Antalya (Turkey) and the bus rapid transit line of Bhopal (India) were considered. The model was employ ...More

Investigation of the effect of surface modification types on the tribological performance of cow bone powder reinforced polymer materials

Refik POLAT

This study investigated the production, characterization, mechanical and tribo-logical performance of surface-modified cow bone powder-reinforced composites. The primary goal was to increase the tribological and mechanical performance of sustainable and cleanly produced composite materials. It was determined that the surface-modified bone powder reinforcement increased the mechanical, thermal, and wear resistance of the polymer. The best surface modification method was determined as silanization. It reduced the friction coefficient and weight loss by 16.60 and 40.0, respectively, according to ...More

Identification of water stress-tolerant edible pumpkin seed (Cucurbita pepo) genotypes using seed yield-based tolerance indices

Atilla DURSUN

Pumpkin is usually cultivated in arid and semiarid regions, and the lack of water stress-tolerant cultivars is a major limiting factor. Therefore, this study was carried out to identify superior water stress-tolerant genotypes. For this purpose, 44 inbred lines with superior agronomic traits were selected from the gene pool. In addition, two hybrids (G1-Mert Bey F1 and G2-Sena Hanim F1) and two landraces (G3-Hatun Tırnağı and G4-Cercevelik) with high commercial value were used as commercial cultivars. The water stress indices were calculated from seed yields from the pumpkin genotypes grown in ...More

Salt tolerance of endophytic root bacteria and their effects on seed germination and viability on tomato plants

Eren ÖZDEN

Salinity is one of the most brutal environmental factors limiting the productivity of agricultural lands worldwide. It is considered that the salinity may be one of the important reasons for the low yield in Igdir of the tomato plants, which is medium resistant (3-5 dS.m-1) among vegetables. Eco-friendly techniques such as endophytic root bacteria treatments (ERB) are needed to restore saline soils to agriculture and also to increase the yield of tomatoes. Endophytic bacteria colonizing the inside of plants increase plant growth by various mechanisms and also mitigate the adverse effects of bi ...More

Comparative study of univariate and multivariate selection strategies based on an integrated approach applied to oilseed rape breeding

Hossein ZEİNALZADEH TABRİZİ

Choosing the right method to discover superior genotypes is always one of the major challenges that oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) researchers deal with. This work aimed to compare the univariate and multivariate selection indices utilizing variance-based, additive main effects and multiplicative interaction based, best linear unbiased prediction based, and genotype x environment/trait based strategies to determine the best-performing (regarding stability, yield, and agronomic traits) oilseed rape genotypes. Utilized indices were categorized into five general methods, including univariate pe ...More

Molecular evidence depicts genetic divergence among Agropyron elongatum and A. cristatum accessions from gene pool of Iran

Hossein ZEİNALZADEH TABRİZİ

The genus Agropyron has an important role in soil protection and forage production in rangelands. The investigation utilized 37 ISSR primers, resulting in the detection of 956 loci within the A. elongatum genome and 705 loci within the A. cristatum genome. The findings revealed a high level of polymorphism, with 97 of loci in A. elongatum and 84 of loci in A. cristatum exhibiting variability. Notably, the primer (AC)8GCT emerged as a promising candidate for evaluating genetic diversity due to its ability to amplify numerous loci in both species. Using both the UPGMA algorithm and Bayesian anal ...More

Heritability, genetic advance and sequential path analysis of oil yield and related traits in spring oilseed rape genotypes

Hossein ZEİNALZADEH TABRİZİ

The efficiency of crop breeding programs is largely driven by the availability of genetic diversity and the inheritance of desirable traits. Heritability, genetic advance and sequential path analysis were assessed in 26 spring oilseed rape genotypes in a randomized complete block design with three replicates over two crop years 2018-2020 at the experimental field of Moghan Agricultural Research Station, Parsabad, Iran. Several morpho-physiological characteristics were recorded during the experiments. Genetic characteristics, heritability, and genetic advance in oilseed rape genotypes were esti ...More

Effect of Impact Angle and Speed, and Weight Abrasive Concentration on AISI 1015 and 304 Steel Exposed to Erosive Wear

Refik POLAT

This study investigated parametrically the erosive wear behavior of AISI 1015 and 304 steel in different environmental conditions. The erosive wear tests were designed according to the L9 orthogonal array design of the Taguchi fractional factorial method. The experiments were carried out with the parameters of 3-level slurry concentration formed with silica powder (5, 15, and 25 wt.), 3-level impact velocity (265, 397.5, and 530 rpm), and 3-level impact angle (30°, 60°, and 90°). Surface roughness and weight loss were considered performance criteria in the experimental data assessed using the ...More

Numerical study on effect of process parameters on material extrusion 3D printing (ME3DP) for porous bone tissue engineering scaffolds

Refik POLAT

Bone tissue engineering (BTE) holds promise for treating bone defects, and 3D-printed porous scaffolds are pivotal for tissue regeneration. This study explores the impact of material extrusion 3D printing (ME3DP) process parameters (i.e., layer height and extrusion temperature) on 3D-printed porous scaffolds made of polyetherimide (PEI) material for BTE. The intricate relationships shaping scaffold dimensional accuracy, residual stresses, and warpage tendencies were unveiled using comprehensive numerical simulations. Our findings reveal that higher layer heights enhance dimensional stability, ...More

ASSESSMENT OF HERITABILITY AND GENETIC EFFICIENCY IN ADVANCED SESAME INBRED LINES

Hossein ZEİNALZADEH TABRİZİ

The estimation of heritability is critical in selecting breeding strategies for various characteristics of agricultural plants. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications was used at Moghan Agricultural Research Station in Iran during the 2017-2018 crop years to evaluate heritability and genetic efficiency in 14 advanced sesame lines, and the Oltan cultivar was used as a control variety. The number of days to flowering (DF), growth period (GP), plant height (PH), number of capsules per plant (CN), capsule length (CL), 1000-seed weight (SW), seed (SY), and oil yield (OY) w ...More
