The research focused on analyzing qualitative and quantitative morpho-physiological characteristics of local sweet cherry cultivars and genotypes. Quantitative and qualitative characteristics (fruit weight, fruit length, fruit width, fruit shape, fruit pistil end, fruit suture, fruit skin colour, fruit flesh colour, length of fruit stalk, thickness of fruit stalk, weight of fruit stalk, colour of fruit juice, fruit juiciness, eating quality, fruit sweetness, stone weight, stone shape, TA, pH, L, a, b, H, croma, cracking index, sensitivity class) with UPOV descriptors were used in the evaluatio ...More
Turkey has a diverse apple germplasm and Northeastern Anatolia had great contributions to domestication of the Malus genus. Despite quite high rainfall (900-2300 mm) and humidity (70-85?levels, several local apple cultivars have been successfully grown for centuries at the coastal zone of Eastern Black Sea region of Northeastern Anatolia without any pesticide applications. In this study, a set of 206 local genotypes, including 6 international cultivars as references was analyzed using 13 SSR primers with the aim of assessing the genetic diversity and population structure among the genotypes. B ...More
Amygdalin is a glycoside which commonly found in the seeds of stone fruits. This active ingredient has a great importance in drug industry. Amygdalin is commonly obtained from the seeds of three different Prunus species (almond, cherry laurel and apricot) by producing in vitro callus cultures. In this study, analyses of amygdalin was performed with HPLC from the explants, calluses and kernels of these three species. According to the results obtained, the maximum amygdalin was noted from the whole kernel of the apricot fruits as 5888.45 mg per 100 gwhereas the maximum amygdalin content of cotyl ...More
The aim of this study was to determine the genetic diversity of 18 tea (Camellia sinensis) genotypes and 6 varieties collected from different provinces in the Black Sea region of Turkey. DNA isolation was performed according to the CTAB method of tea samples. PCR was performed for all DNA samples with 59 ISSR primers. In order to determine the genetic relationship between tea genotypes among these primers, 15 polymorphic ISSR primers were used. At the end of the PCR procedures, the polymorphism rate was determined as 77?rom the bands formed. As a result of the analysis of products obtained by ...More
In this study, antioxidant activity and total phenolics in fruit flesh and fruit flesh skin tissue of local apple cultivars encountered along the coastal zone of Northeastern Anatolia Region (Turkey) and 5 standard cultivars were determined. In local cultivars, antioxidant activities (μmol Trolox equivalent (TE) antioxidant g fresh weight (fw)-1) varied between 0.17-1.70 in fruit flesh and between 0.35-1.55 in fruit flesh skin tissue; in standard cultivars, the values varied between 0.24 (‘Royal Gala’) and 0.29 (‘Granny Smith’ and ‘Pink Lady’) in fruit flesh and between 0.27 (‘Jonagold’) and 0 ...More
