Energy consumption and economic growth: The case of transition economies

Hakan ÇETİNTAŞ

This study investigates the causality relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in 17 transition countries, which are Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Georgia. Empirical findings indicate that there is unidirectional causality from economic growth to energy consumption in the long run. The results support for conservation hypothesis suggests that energy conservation policies have no effect on economic growth. They can simultaneously a ...More

Taguchi optimization of automotive radiator cooling with nanofluids

Kasım BAYNAL

Considering the influences of the heat transfer rate in automotive radiators on several aspects such as engine performance, fuel economy and available space for components, the present study numerically investigates the impacts of different nanofluids on the heat transfer and pressure drop in an automotive radiator. Four different parameters each having four levels are taken into consideration, which are nanoparticle volume fraction (phi 0.1, 0.3, 0.7, and 1), Reynolds number (Re 9350, 13,800, 18,500 and 23,000), type of base fluid (EG20, EG40, EG60, and water) and type of nanoparticle (Fe3O4, ...More

Investigation on properties of cement mortar with bottom ash and perlite

Kasım BAYNAL

Perlite and some recycled materials are preferably used to provide thermal insulation and lightness in mortar. Cement is often used as a binder in such a composite, although it makes the composite heavier and impairs its insulation properties. In this study, recycled bottom ash (BA) and expanded perlite (EP) as the aggregate, and cement as the binder and the optimum solution were investigated by using Taguchi Method. Depending on the specimens prepared using orthogonal array L9, the values of compressive strength, flexural strength, flowability, dry unit weight, water absorption, capillarity c ...More

Cybersecurity Awareness in Online Education: A Case Study Analysis

Mehmet Emin ERENDOR

This study presents to what extent Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University students are knowledgeable about cybersecurity in the distance education process. The survey was conducted with a sample of 517 students from all faculties of the university at the undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels. Our research study shows that although huge numbers of cyberattacks are occurring around the world, the students did not have any knowledge about cybersecurity and the effects of cyberattacks overall. An analysis of cybersecurity awareness was undertaken by asking questions focused on malicious software, passw ...More

ANALYZING THE EFFECT OF ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS ON DIGITAL DIVIDE: THE CASE OF TRANSITION ECONOMIES

Zamira ÖSKÖNBAYEVA

With the widespread use of information communication technologies, many people and countries with a lack of technology are growing. The term digital divide is a multifaceted phenomenon. It means the gap between people and countries with access to digital technologies and those with very limited or no access at all.The main purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting digital divide in selected transition countries. In the empirical analysis, The Panel Quantile Regression proposed by Machado and Silva (2019) has been applied. Using panel data for 20 countries for the period 199 ...More

Large-Scale Shopping Mall Architectural Design Based on Intelligent BIM Technology

In this paper, limit analysis method and limit analysis finite element method are used to study the stability of large-scale shopping mall building structure. Moreover, this paper combines data analysis to verify the algorithm analysis process of this paper and uses statistical methods to verify that the algorithm proposed in this paper is applicable to the architectural design of large shopping malls. Furthermore, this work uses BIM and finite element technologies to test the usefulness of this strategy by simulating the shopping mall design process. The experimental research shows that the l ...More

Volatility of the alternative energy input prices and spillover effects: a VAR [MA]-MGARCH in BEKK approach for the Turkish economy

Tezcan ABASIZ

The interaction among the energy unit prices, which are considered as the most effective factor on the realization of economic growth, and the distribution of this interaction throughout the manufacturing process have become popular subjects in research recently. Especially, the scarcity of energy resources and the problems encountered in their supply make it necessary to utilize alternative energy resources. Thus, the realization of production using different energy inputs simultaneously results in an interaction between the factors and the spillover effect. Thus, in the study, alternative ve ...More

Optimisation of elastomeric bearings' vulcanisation process using response surface methodology and desirability function approach

Kasım BAYNAL

In this study, response surface methodology and desirability function approach (DFA) were used to optimise the vulcanisation process of elastomeric bearings to obtain better quality products. For this purpose, compressive stiffness and vertical deflection under maximum load were determined as response variables with a target at 198 kN/mm and 3.46 mm, respectively, in accordance with customer's request. Time, temperature and pressure were considered as control variables of the process. Experimental combinations were determined using Box-Behnken design and two repetitions were made in each combi ...More

Performance analysis of healthcare supply chain management with competency-based operation evaluation

Adem GÖLEÇ | Gülnara KARADENIZ

The performance analysis of healthcare supply chain management (SCM) has become extremely important as healthcare systems have begun to struggle to enhance operational efficiency and diminish costs. The aim of this study was to measure healthcare SCM in accordance with competency-based operation evaluation. The study was organized as a hierarchical structure based on the main processes, sub-processes, and their operations of healthcare SCM. It is considerably difficult to quantify the competency of an operation. Therefore, a fuzzy model was developed to measure healthcare SCM performance accor ...More
