Abuzer TAŞ | İsmail ŞEN | Fatih HATİPOĞLU | Hasan Hüseyin ARI | Ruslan SALIKOV | Nur ABDIMANAP UULU | Ayperi Aytmırza Kızı

Coenurosis caused by Coenurus cerebralis poses a significant economic threat to sheep. To date, no effective treatment has been identified for this parasitic infection once it has settled in the brain. This study aimed to investigate the surgical removal of C. cerebralis cysts from the brains of infected sheep. Twenty sheep were utilized in the experiment, and the animals underwent a 24-hour fasting period before the surgical procedure. Various biochemical parameters, including TP, ALP, BUN, AST, CK, LDH, RBC, WBC, Hb, and Hct, were measured in the animals both before and one month after the o ...More

Effects of traditional homemade koumiss on some hematological and biochemical characteristics in sedentary men exposed to exercise

İhsan KISADERE | C. BALABAN | Nariste KADIRALİYEVA

We evaluated the effects of koumiss on some hematological and biochemical characteristics of persons who exercise. Eighteen sedentary males were assigned to three equal groups: koumiss (K), koumiss + exercise (KE) and exercise alone (E). Leukocytes (WBC), differential leucocyte count, erythrocytes (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), platelet (PLT), glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein (HDL), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were assessed In blood samples. By the end of the study, triglycerides (TG) and cholesterol levels ...More

Cytochemistry of peripheral blood leukocytes in thoroughbred foals

Emrah SUR

We attempted to characterize the cytochemical staining patterns of leukocytes and to determine the percentages of alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) and acid phosphatase (ACPase) positive lymphocytes in peripheral blood of thoroughbred foals at different ages. Blood samples were obtained from the jugular veins of 60 healthy thoroughbred foals, 1 day, 3 days and 1 year old. Each age group included 10 male and 10 female animals. Peroxidase (PO) activity was detected in neutrophils, eosinophils and monocytes. Lymphocytes were negative for PO staining. Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining was o ...More

The ameliorative effects of Nigella sativa, thymoquinone, and bentonite against aflatoxicosis in broilers via AFAR and Nrf2 signalling pathways, and down-regulation of caspase-3

Fatih HATİPOĞLU

1. Aflatoxins (AFs) are metabolites which especially have toxic effects on proteins, and are detoxified by the aflatoxin-B-1 aldehyde reductase (AFAR) pathway. In this pathway, the aldo-keto reductase family 7, member A2 (AKR7A2) enzyme, which is controlled by nucleic-related erythroid factor 2 (Nrf2), plays an active role. However, data on the efficacy of this critical pathway in broilers is limited. 2. The aim of the following study was to investigate the changes in the expression levels of AKR7A2, Nrf2, and caspase-3, and the effects of Nigella sativa seeds (NS), thymoquinone (TMQ), and ben ...More
