Selective Electrochemical Determination of L-Cysteine by a Cobalt Carbon Nanotube (CNT)-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE)

Nahit AKTAŞ

L-Cysteine is a semi-essential and proteinogenic amino acid, with the formula HO2CCH (NH2) CH2SH. L-cysteine is mostly found in protein-rich foods. In this study, catalysts consisting of cobalt (Co) supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared using the sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method. These catalysts were characterized by means of energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), and temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) techniques. Characterization results confirmed the successful preparation of the desired catal ...More

2-Benzo[c]cinnoline and 2-Benzo[c]cinnoline 6-oxide modified glassy carbon electrodes: electrocatalytic reduction of dioxygen in aqueous media

Ali Osman SOLAK

Benzo[c]cinnoline (BCC) molecules were electrochemically grafted onto a glassy carbon (GC) surface in nonaqueous media, and the modified surface was characterized using cyclic voltammetry (CV) with redox probes. Blockage of the electron transfer on the modified surface was observed using redox probes. Electrocatalytic effect of 2BCC modified GC (2BCC-GC) electrode surface towards to the electrochemical reduction of dioxygen was also investigated. A mechanistic scheme for the electrochemical catalysis was proposed. To clarify the mechanism of the dioxygen reduction, a less basic film of 2-benzo ...More

Spectroscopic and Electrochemical Characterization of Benzoylglycine-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode: Electrocatalytic Effect Towards Dioxygen Reduction in Aqueous Media

Ali Osman SOLAK

Present work aims to create a benzoylglycine (BG)-modified glassy carbon (GC) substrate exploiting the electroreduction of diazonium salts. Dopamine was used to confirm the attachment of benzoylglycine molecules onto the glassy carbon surface by observing the blockage of the electron transfer using cyclic voltammetry (CV). BG-modified GC surface (BG-GC) was also characterized by Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The ellipsometric thickness of the BG film was measured as approximately 14 nm for seven CV cycles. The electrocatalytic effect of BG-GC e ...More

Determination of Moisture Transport Parameters of Some Fruits Under Open Sun Drying Conditions

İnci Türk TOĞRUL | Hasan TOĞRUL

In order to determine the behavior of fruits during drying under natural conditions, open sun drying experiments were conducted on apricots, grapes, peaches, figs, and plums. The drying rate curves of these fruit did not contain constant rate period, but showed a falling rate period. In the present work, Biot numbers and the mass transfer characteristics—namely moisture diffusivity and moisture transfer coefficient—of selected fruits were evaluated by drying coefficients (S) and lag factors (G). The experimental results exhibited mass transfer Biot numbers in the range of 0.115–0.158, thus ind ...More

Urea Uptake and Release by Novel Macrogels from Dimethylacrylamide

Nahit AKTAŞ

A novel macrogels poly(N,N-Dimethylacrylamide) (p(DMAAm)) and its derivatives were synthesized from DMAAm for use in urea uptake and release. p(DMAAm) surface was modified by NaOH and HCl to obtain p(DMAAm)/NaOH and p(DMAAm)/HCl, which are negatively and positively charged, respectively. The dynamic swelling behaviors, water retention and pH sensitivities of the macrogels were studied. It was found that all macrogels exhibited the equilibrium swelling ratio (SR) in the range 1068-1451%. Swelling kinetics showed that the macrogels possessed Fickian diffusion behavior while the diffusion coeffic ...More

3-Acrylamidopropyl-trimethylammoniumchloride cationic hydrogel modified graphite electrode and its superior sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide

Nahit AKTAŞ

A highly sensitive hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor is fabricated by the synthesized 3-Acrylamidopropyl-trimethylammoniumchloride (p(APTMACl)) hydrogel to covered of pen- graphite (PG) electrodes. (p(APTMACl))-PG electrode is characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The electrochemical properties of these sensors are investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The CV behavior of (p(APTMACl))-PG electrode is inve ...More

Synthesis of Smart Food Packaging from Poly (Gelatin-co-Dimethyl Acrylamide). Citric Acid-Red Apple peel Extract

Nahit AKTAŞ

A novel and smart hydrogel was synthesized from N, N dimethyl acrylamide (DMAAm), gelatin, and citric acid (CA) red apple peel extract (RApE) to be utilized as a multi-functional food packaging material. The p(Gelatin-co-DMAAm)/CA-RApE was prepared through a redox polymerization technique in film form in petri dishes. Mechanical and water resistance of the p(Gelatin-co-DMAAm)/CA-RApE was improved by the addition of citric acid and N, N, methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as cross linker. The characterization of p(Gelatin-co-DMAAm)/CA-RApE was carried out by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (F ...More

Development of onion oil-based organo-hydrogel for drug delivery material

Nahit AKTAŞ

Agar and Glycerol (AG) based Organo-hydrogels containing different cross-linkers and different amounts of Onion Oil were prepared in order to examine the in vitro release of the antibiotic drug Ceftriaxone and the anti-carcinogenic drug Carboplatin. At preparation of the organo-hydrogels was used free radical polymerization technique in the emulsion media. As a control group, Agar-Glycerol (AG) gel and Agar-Glycerol (p (AG-m) and p (AG-g)) hydrogels were synthesized. When balance swelling rates of organo-hydrogels were examined, different swelling behaviors were observed in different solvent e ...More
