Employment vulnerability is considered as working under inadequate conditions. This research examined the impact of employment vulnerability on earnings with special reference to gender-based differences. Analyses were based on panel data for 2010-2013 and 2016 from the household survey. A panel data fixed-effects model with instrumental variable within the Lewbel (2012) method was applied to estimate an earnings equation. Results indicates negative impact of employment vulnerability on earnings. Women experienced this negative effect more severely. Given these empirical findings, government l ...More
This study presents the initial structural model of L-haloacid dehalogenase (DehLBHS1) from Bacillus megaterium BHS1, an alkalotolerant bacterium known for its ability to degrade halogenated environmental pollutants. The model provides insights into the structural features of DehLBHS1 and expands our understanding of the enzymatic mechanisms involved in the degradation of these hazardous pollutants. Key amino acid residues (Arg40, Phe59, Asn118, Asn176, and Trp178) in DehLBHS1 were identified to play critical roles in catalysis and molecular recognition of haloalkanoic acid, essential for effi ...More
Since the end of communism, Kyrgyzstan, like other Muslim-majority regions of the former Soviet Union, has experienced an ‘Islamic revival’. Among its manifestations has been a rising number of veiled women. Many of them have joined the Tablighi Jamaat (the Society for Spreading Faith) which provides Islamic teaching (taalim) and organises weekly religious sessions (ijtimas). The chapter examines the ways in which the Tablighi Jamaat has been shaping Kyrgyz women's understanding of Islam and what it means to them to be Muslim. It is particularly interested in the implications of the Tablighi J ...More

Coenurosis caused by Coenurus cerebralis poses a significant economic threat to sheep. To date, no effective treatment has been identified for this parasitic infection once it has settled in the brain. This study aimed to investigate the surgical removal of C. cerebralis cysts from the brains of infected sheep. Twenty sheep were utilized in the experiment, and the animals underwent a 24-hour fasting period before the surgical procedure. Various biochemical parameters, including TP, ALP, BUN, AST, CK, LDH, RBC, WBC, Hb, and Hct, were measured in the animals both before and one month after the o ...More
L-Cysteine is a semi-essential and proteinogenic amino acid, with the formula HO2CCH (NH2) CH2SH. L-cysteine is mostly found in protein-rich foods. In this study, catalysts consisting of cobalt (Co) supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared using the sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method. These catalysts were characterized by means of energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), and temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) techniques. Characterization results confirmed the successful preparation of the desired catal ...More
Whether university support is meaningful in increasing students' entrepreneurial intentions (EI) remains largely under-investigated, especially in the context of Central Asian countries. In this study, we attempted to address this question by examining the effects of university support (comprised of educational support, concept development support, and business development support) on students' EI. We employed a structured questionnaire to collect data from 793 student respondents enrolled in 13 universities in Kyrgyzstan and performed descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Our anal ...More
There are mounting concerns over the high concentrations of non-biogenic, toxic halogenated organic compounds being liberated into the ecosystem. Therefore, this study’s isolation of a novel bacterium from a contaminated stream in Fatsa, Ordu, Turkey, adept in degrading 2,2-dichloropropionic (of 2,2-DCP) is a welcome endeavor. The ability of the bacterial isolate to utilize 2,2-DCP as the sole carbon and energy source was discovered when the bacterium was observed to grow well on liquid minimal media containing 20 mM of 2,2-DCP, showing a doubling time of 14.2 h. The following genetic and bioc ...More
Based on self-determination theory as a conceptual framework, the aim of this study is to reveal the relationships amongst cave visitors' experiences, motivation, satisfaction and revisit intention. In order to test the conceptual model designed in line with the objectives of the study, a survey was conducted amongst a sample of 312 visitors to Dupnisa Cave in Turkey. The analysis showed that visitors' motivation and cave experience positively influenced their satisfaction. Moreover, satisfaction has an effect on visitors' revisit intention. This study is one of the first to attempt to reveal ...More
Heavy metals (HMs) are widely used in various industries. High concentrations of HMs can be severely toxic to plants, animals and humans. Microorganism-based bioremediation has shown significant potential in degrading and detoxifying specific HM contaminants. In this study, we cultivated a range of bacterial strains in liquid and solid nutrient medium containing different concentrations of different HMs to select and analyze bacteria capable of transforming HMs. The bacterial strains most resistant to selected HMs and exhibiting the ability to remove HMs from contaminated soils were identified ...More
Soil pollution by pesticides is a global problem in many countries, including Kyrgyzstan. Currently, 50 storage facilities for obsolete banned pesticides exist, severely threatening the surrounding populations and environment. In this study, in situ bioremediation technology was used to remove pesticide contamination from soil around the storage facilities. Three conditions were tested: application of fertile soil and bioproduct, application of fertile soil and no bioproduct (Control 1), and application of fertile soil and no bioproduct (Control 2). An aerobic bioremediation approach was used: ...More
Fertilizer recommendations for phosphorus (P) are generally based on the soil content of plant available P and the amount of P exported by the harvested crop. In countries of the former Soviet Union (SU), a widespread method is the Machigin extraction. The relationships between soil P contents extracted with this and other European methods are not well established. Here, we compare the Machigin soil P extraction method with the Calcium Ammonium Lactate P(CAL) procedure that is commonly used in Central Europe. Both methods were tested with 94 soil samples originating from Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, a ...More
Plants can be used as biological indicators in assessing the damage done by bioaccumulation of heavy metals and their negative impact on the environment. In the present research, Roman nettle (Urtica pilulifera L.) was employed as a bioindicator for cadmium (Cd) pollution. The comparisons between unexposed and exposed plant samples revealed inhibition of the root growth (∼25.96% and ∼45.92% after treatment with 100 and 200 µmol/L Cd concentrations, respectively), reduction in the total soluble protein quantities (∼53.92% and ∼66.29% after treatment with 100 and 200 µmol/L Cd concentrations, re ...More
