Prediction of soccer clubs' league rankings by machine learning methods: The case of Turkish Super League

Abdullah Erdal TÜMER

The aim of this research is to predict league rankings through various machine learning models using technical and physical parameters. This study followed a longitudinal observational analytical design. The SENTIO Sports optical tracking system was used to measure the physical demands and technical practices of the players in all matches. Then, the data regarding the last three seasons of the Turkish Super League (2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018), was collected. In this research, league rankings were estimated using three machine learning methods: Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Radial ...More

Effect of delamination size, location and boundary conditions on the behavior of a laminated glass plate

Ebru DURAL

Laminated glass is made by combining glass layers with polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or a different adhesive with the help of heat and pressure. Its popularity is increasing in the building industry as a protective material. However, despite the popularity of laminated glass as a structural material, delamination is recognized as a highly undesirable problem inducing major damage to laminated glass. The effect of boundary conditions on the delamination strength of laminated glass is observed in this study. It is concluded that the location and size of delamination have a considerable effect in deter ...More

Of Silica Gel-Glasses on the 4 I 13/2 → 4 I 15/2 Luminescence Bandwidth of Er3 Ions

Zamirgül KAZAKBAYEVA

The luminescence of Er3 ions in silica glasses synthesized by the direct sol–gel–glass transition method and by melting of activated gel grit using various precursors of optical centers was studied. The formation of complex centers including erbium, aluminum, and alkali metal ions was found to be one way of essentially increasing the half-width of the 4 I 13/2 → 4 I 15/2 luminescence band of these ions. Keyword: complex optical centers; luminescence; rare earth ions; sol–gel method

Influence of boundary conditions on the behavior of laminated glass curved beam with delamination effect: An experimental and numerical investigation

Ebru DURAL

The delamination phenomena of laminated glass structures are issues that are not perfectly understood and remain problematic to predict due to the nonlinearity of the geometric response. A research study is undertaken to investigate the behavior of laminated glass curved beams with initial delamination exposed to different boundary conditions. A mathematical model which contains nonlinear field equations and boundary conditions is developed. An iterative procedure for the solution of field equations is implemented. In addition, experiments are conducted and finite element model is developed to ...More

Delamination Resistance of Laminated Glass Plates Having Ethyl Vinyl Acetate, Polyvinyl Butyral and Sentryglas Plus Interlayers

Ebru DURAL

Laminated glass is produced by laminating glass layers with an interlayer at specified pressure and temperatures using an autoclave. The characteristic properties of laminated glass can be affected considerably by the used interlayers. Polyvinyl Butyral, Ethyl Vinyl Acetate and SentryGlass are three common interlayers used by glass manufacturers. In order to select the appropriate interlayer parameters such as blast performance, availability, cost, durability, optical property and manufacturing equipment should be considered. Usage of laminated glass is expanding due to its safety and security ...More

Experimental analysis of polypropylene fibre mixed adobe

Mustafa Haluk ÇELİK | Mahmut DURMAZ

The aim of this study is to search some mechanical features of polypropylene fibre mixed adobe. As fibre additive polypropylene, in proportions of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, soil with 26% clay and 7 kg straw per cubic meter were mixed and mixture with adobe was prepared. As a result the compressive strengths of the polypropylene fibre mixed samples were determined as 40 kgf/cýrf in %0, 26.55 kgf/cm in 5%, 31.62 kgf/cm2 in 10%,37.35 kgf/cm2 in 15%; tensile strengths as 13.76 kgf/cm2 in 0%, 45.80 kgf/cm2 in 5%, 46.90 kgf/cm2 in 10%, 47.20 kgf/cm2 in 15%; heat conduction values as 0.58 kcal/mh°c in 0%, 0. ...More

The effect of various polymer-based coating types on the biological corrosion resistance of mortar

Tahir GÖNEN

As the urban population increases and the level of social life advances, the amount of wastewater originating from houses, institutions and industries increases as well. It is necessary for the infrastructure systems in settlements to be sustained under healthy conditions. Since the subsequent repair of infrastructure systems is difficult, appropriate selection of the materials used in these systems is of importance. Concrete pipes are widely used in sewerage systems. In the present study, it was aimed to improve the biological corrosion resistance of concrete pipes via coating with various ma ...More

Experimental analysis of energy, performance and noise emissions for biodiesel fuel obtained from animal waste fat

Hüseyin ÖĞÜT

Animal fats are one of the biodiesel raw materials. In this study, biodiesel was produced from horse fat by transesterification method and the produced biodiesel was mixed with euro diesel at 5 by volume, and experimental fuels in the form of D-100 and D95B5 were obtained. Fuel properties of test fuels were determined. In addition, using the experimental fuels in a single-cylinder, four-stroke, water-cooled diesel engine, the data obtained by investigating the engine performances, energy analysis, and noise emissions were presented with graphics and interpreted. In the experiment results; D95B ...More

The investigation of the use of plant-based wild mustard and boron doped oil as engine lubrication oil in diesel engines

Hüseyin ÖĞÜT

In internal combustion engines, mineral engine oils which serve as lubricants between parts are not used alone due to technical reasons and various additives are made use of for better lubrication. In these additives, liquid boron serves to reduce friction. To reduce the environmental damage caused by engine lubrication oils, it is necessary to improve the properties of biological oils so that they can be used and compete with mineral oils technically. In the study, the use of liquid boron as an engine lubrication oil additive, together with wild mustard oil methyl ester, was investigated. Two ...More

Investigation of engine performance and kit design for the usage of safflower oil as in diesel engine

Hüseyin ÖĞÜT

In Turkey, the consumption of diesel oil is increasing both in transportation and in agricultural fields. In this study, the opportunities of the use of safflower oil, which grow originally in Turkey as a direct fuel in diesel engines, were researched to provide a new alternative for biofuel industry and to popularize the farming of oil crops. In this study, the kit design was completed first, and afterwards safflower oil was exposed to the process of neutralization and laundering, and then turned into standard fuel. For engine performance experiments, reference experiences were conducted by ...More

The effects of the use of vegetable oil based as engine lubrication oil on engine performance and emissions in diesel engines

Hüseyin ÖĞÜT

The boron occupies an important place on contributions and its usage is getting widespread. Although the use of boron-added mineral oils serves to reduce friction, environmental risks can not be totally removed. It is necessary to improve the properties of biological oils used for additives so that they can compete with mineral oils technically. In the study, the use of liquid boron as an additive for engine lubrication oil together with vegetable oil was investigated experimentally in two diesel engines. Experiments were first carried out using mineral lubrication oil in the engine, and then ...More

Freezing-thawing and impact resistance of concretes containing waste crumb rubbers

Tahir GÖNEN

Millions of tires are discarded every year. Disposal or recycling-reusing of waste tire rubber has become a big environmental problem in the world. In this study, it was aimed to determine the freezing-thawing, impact resistance, compressive strength and capillary water absorption rate, when the granulated waste rubber parts are used in the non-load-bearing concrete. Granulated crumb rubbers obtained from waste tires were used at two different grain diameters of 1 and 2 mm as the maximum value. A total of 9 different series were prepared, one of them being the control group and the others bein ...More
