Türk mitolojisinde kaplumbağa sembolizmi büyük ölçüde Çin ve Hint inanışları temelinde gelişmiştir. Kaplumbağa doğurganlığın, uzun yaşamın ve ölümsüzlüğün sembolü olarak çeşitli inanış ve pratiklerle gündelik yaşantının içinde yer edinen bir hayvandır. Yumurta ise mitolojide yaratılış söylencelerinin başlangıcı ve doğurganlığın sembolü olarak görülmektedir.
