Selective Electrochemical Determination of L-Cysteine by a Cobalt Carbon Nanotube (CNT)-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE)

Nahit AKTAŞ

L-Cysteine is a semi-essential and proteinogenic amino acid, with the formula HO2CCH (NH2) CH2SH. L-cysteine is mostly found in protein-rich foods. In this study, catalysts consisting of cobalt (Co) supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared using the sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method. These catalysts were characterized by means of energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), and temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) techniques. Characterization results confirmed the successful preparation of the desired catal ...More

Influence of boundary conditions on the behavior of laminated glass curved beam with delamination effect: An experimental and numerical investigation

Ebru DURAL

The delamination phenomena of laminated glass structures are issues that are not perfectly understood and remain problematic to predict due to the nonlinearity of the geometric response. A research study is undertaken to investigate the behavior of laminated glass curved beams with initial delamination exposed to different boundary conditions. A mathematical model which contains nonlinear field equations and boundary conditions is developed. An iterative procedure for the solution of field equations is implemented. In addition, experiments are conducted and finite element model is developed to ...More

Renewable-based treatment solution of Reactive Blue 21 dye on fly ash as low-cost and sustainable adsorbent

Mehmet KOBYA

This study investigated the removal of Reactive Blue 21 (RB 21) dye from aqueous solutions by adsorption, evaluating the waste fly ash (FA). The effects of the parameters, such as initial dye concentration (100–750 mg/L), initial pH (2.0–8.0), adsorbent dose (1.0–4.0 g/L), and temperature (298–323 K) on the adsorption process were investigated. The optimum initial pH value was 2.0 for the highest RB21 dye removal (75.2 mg/g). At optimized conditions (pH 2.0, an adsorbent dosage of 1.0 g/L, a dye concentration of 750 mg/L, and an equilibrium time of 72 h), the highest adsorption capacity was fo ...More

A 2,2-dichloropropionic acid-degrading novel Pseudomonas fluorescence strain fatsa001: isolation, identification, and characterization

Gülbübü KURMANBEKOVA | Yılmaz KAYA

There are mounting concerns over the high concentrations of non-biogenic, toxic halogenated organic compounds being liberated into the ecosystem. Therefore, this study’s isolation of a novel bacterium from a contaminated stream in Fatsa, Ordu, Turkey, adept in degrading 2,2-dichloropropionic (of 2,2-DCP) is a welcome endeavor. The ability of the bacterial isolate to utilize 2,2-DCP as the sole carbon and energy source was discovered when the bacterium was observed to grow well on liquid minimal media containing 20 mM of 2,2-DCP, showing a doubling time of 14.2 h. The following genetic and bioc ...More

On the Solvability of a Boundary Value Problem for Nonlinear Optimization of Oscillatory Processes

Elmira ABDILDAYEVA

The paper investigates the solvability of a boundary value problem in the control of an oscillatory process described by control in partial derivatives of the first order. It has been established that there are an infinite set of controls, as solutions to the system of nonlinear Fredholm integral equations of the first kind, each of which transfers the controlled process from the initial state to the final specified state in a specified time. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a nonlinear optimization solution are found.

Existence, Decay, and Blow-up of Solutions for a Weighted m -Biharmonic Equation with Nonlinear Damping and Source Terms

Ercan ÇELİK

In this paper, we consider the weighted m-biharmonic equation with nonlinear damping and source terms. We proved the global existence of solutions. Later, the decay of the energy is established by using Nakao's inequality. Finally, we proved the blow-up of solutions in finite time.

On Spatial Mechanisms in Lorentzian 3-Space

Olgun DURMAZ

Let L4 be a 4-dimensional Lorentzian space with the sign (−,,,). The aim of this study is to investigate the other missing algebraic forms of the constraint manifolds of 2C and 3C spatial open chains in L4. For this purpose, firstly, we obtain the structure equations of a spatial open chain using the equations of open chains of the Lorentz plane and Lorentz sphere. After then, using these structure equations, we search the algebraic forms of the constraint manifolds of 2C and 3C spatial open chains in Lorentzian 3-space with respect to the causal characters of the first link and the axis of ro ...More

Web 2.0 in higher education: Difference in usage and perception between Kazakh and Kyrgyz students

Çinara CUMABAYEVA | Rita İSMAİLOVA

The use of Web 2.0 technologies such as social media and user-generated content and their educational prospective attract the attention of many researchers. The results of the vast majority of these studies suggest that the use of social networks in the educational process can be helpful in increasing the quality of education and making it accessible to more students. In order to clarify the students’ opinions, a survey was conducted among students from various majors at leading universities in two Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The main objective of the study was to deter ...More

A hitchhiker’s guide: estimates of microbial biomass and microbial gene abundance in soil

Canıl İSKAKOVA

Information on microbial biomass carbon (MBC) is crucial to assess their stocks and role for plant nutrient release in soil. Next to fumigation-extraction, molecular methods are routinely used to estimate the contribution of fungi, bacteria, and archaea to the soil microbial community. However, more information on the links between these different indices would deepen the understanding of microbial processes. The current study is based on 11 datasets, which contain MBC and MBN data obtained by fumigation-extraction and information on bacterial, archaeal, and fungal gene abundance, totalling 76 ...More

An approximate solution of singularly perturbed problem on uniform mesh

Ercan ÇELİK

In this study, we obtain approximate solution for singularly perturbed problem of differential equation having two integral boundary conditions. With this purpose, we propose a new finite difference scheme. First, we construct this exponentially difference scheme on a uniform mesh using the finite difference method. We use the quasilinearization method and the interpolating quadrature formulas to establish the numerical scheme. Then, as a result of the error analysis, we show that the method under study is convergent in the first order. Consequently, theoretical findings are supported by numer ...More

On the upper bounds of Hankel determinants for some subclasses of univalent functions associated with sine functions

Muhammet KAMALİ | Alina RISKULOVA

Let a normalized analytic function be given on the open unit disk. In this paper, we define and consider some familiar subsets of analytic functions associated with sine functions in the region of unit disk on the complex plane. For these classes, we aim to find the upper bounds of the modules of the Hankel determinants obtained from the coefficients of the functions belonging to some classes defined by subordination. Keyword: analytic functions; coefficient estimates; convex function; hankel determinant; sine function; starlike functions; subordination

The free amino acid profiling of milk-and cereal-based Kyrgyz ethnic fermented beverages and their contribution to taste formation

Ayçürök MACİTOVA

The present study aimed to determine the content of 18 free amino acids (FAA), including 10 essential amino acids, in traditional fermented beverages and their umami, sweet and bitter taste potential. The FAAs of traditional dairy and cereal-based fermented beverages were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a diode array detector and derivatization with diethyl ethoxymethylenemalonate (DEEMM). FAA content and taste attributes with a focus on umami, sweet and bitter were presented for koumiss, ayran, carbonated ayran, boza, boza with sea buckthorn, and maksym. The ...More
