The relationship between Th1/Th2 cytokine polarization and milk composition in the postnatal period in Kyrgyz mares and foals

Fatih Ramazan İSTANBULLUGİL | Ali RIŞVANLI | Ruslan SALIKOV | Nariste KADIRALİYEVA | Ayday CUNUŞOVA

Immune compatibility between mare and foal is one of the important topics of reproductive immunology. At this point, although there are many studies on antibodies, there are not many publications on the relationship between the cytokine levels of mare, foal and milk and the effects of milk composition on this relationship. Here we investigate the relationship between Th1/Th2 cytokine balance and milk composition in Kyrgyz mares and foals. Samples were taken soon after the foal was born and on days 5, 10 and 20 after birth. Th1 (IFN-γ, IL-2, TNF-α) and Th2 (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10) cytokine levels in ...More

Mechanisms of probiotic Bacillus against enteric bacterial infections

Damla ARSLAN ACARÖZ | Fatih Ramazan İSTANBULLUGİL | Ulaş ACARÖZ

Gastrointestinal infection is a leading cause of gut diseases attracting global health concerns. The emerging antimicrobial resistance in enteric pathogens drives the search of viable and renewable alternatives to antibiotics for the health of both human beings and animals. Spore-forming probiotic Bacillus have received extensively interests for their multiple health benefits, including the restoration of microbiota dysbiosis and the reduction of drug-resistant pathogens. These promising benefits are mainly attributed to the activity of structurally diverse Bacillus-derived metabolites, such a ...More

A Review on the Antimicrobial Effect of Honey on Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes: Recent Studies

Fatih Ramazan İSTANBULLUGİL | Ulaş ACARÖZ | Damla ARSLAN ACARÖZ

Foodborne pathogens like Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes are microbial agents capable of causing severe illnesses, and they pose a perpetual menace to the food industry. Given their potential to jeopardize human health, both food producers and consumers hold significant concerns regarding these pathogens. The quest for novel strategies and natural preservatives in the domain of food safety holds paramount importance in the effort to curtail the dissemination and contamination of these pathogens. In this context, honey stands out as a notable natural product with substantial potential. Ho ...More

The relationship between milk components, immunoglobulins, and cytokine content at the end of lactation in Kyrgyz mares

Fatih Ramazan İSTANBULLUGİL | Ali RIŞVANLI | Ruslan SALIKOV | Ulaş ACARÖZ | Damla ARSLAN ACARÖZ

The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship of immunoglobulins and cytokine levels in the milk of Kyrgyz mares during the last period of lactation. For this purpose, seven Kyrgyz mares were used. During the last week of lactation, milk samples were obtained from mares four times at intervals of two days. Physicochemical tests were performed on all collected milk samples, and pH, fat, ash, titratable acidity, and dry matter were measured. Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), interleukin-2 (IL-2), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels were determined usi ...More

INHIBITORY EFFECTS of HONEY on STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS and ESCHERICHIA COLI: A CURRENT REVIEW

Ulaş ACARÖZ | Fatih Ramazan İSTANBULLUGİL

Honey is a natural food that has been used since ancient times for its medicinal benefits. Thanks to its antimicrobial activity, which has a very important place among honey's medicinal effects, it can be used against various pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The antibacterial effect of honey depends on physical (high osmotic pressure, low water activity and low pH value), chemical (hydrogen peroxide, methylglyocal, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, organic acids and proteins) and biological factors (enzymes secreted by bees, probiotic bacteria and pollen). The antiba ...More
