Water is an effective additive to fuel oil to reduce the concentration of soot in the gas phase

Mirlan MOLDOBAYEV | Kubat KEMELOV | Zarlık MAYMEKOV

Soot is one of the products of incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon fuels. It has the property of adsorption of active and carcinogenic substances on the surface of soot particles. In this regard, in burner equipment of medium and small power, it is required to develop and implement effective environmental measures to reduce emissions of soot particles. In this paper, the fuel oil-water-air system at a wide temperature range (T500-3000K) was studied and the ratio of gas-liquid flows (water content in fuel oil 5-15) at the maximum entropy of the system and the formation of soot in flue gases wa ...More

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) removal from real landfill leachate wastewater and simulated soil leachate by electrochemical oxidation process

Mehmet KOBYA

Poly and perfluoroalkyl compounds (PFASs) are a group of chemicals that are widely used and are difficult to purify. Within this group, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), known for its highly polar and strong carbon-fluorine bonds, is a frequently encountered species in surface water, drinking water, and groundwater. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of electrooxidation (EO) in PFOA removal, optimization of EO parameters, and groundwater simulation in a realistic scenario. The EO optimization experiments were performed with a boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode for different values of pH, ...More

AMINO ACID COMPOSITION AND SOME PHYSICOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF MULTI-FLORAL HONEY FROM MOUNTAINOUS REGIONS OF KYRGYZSTAN = Kırgızistan'ın Dağlık Bölgelerinden Elde Edilen Polifloralı (Çok Çiçekli) Balın Amino Asit Bileşimi ve Bazı Fizikokimyasal Parametreleri

Ayçürök MACİTOVA

Mountain animal food products are at the center of attention due to their intrinsic value and, as such, mountain beekeeping products deserve attention and effort for their valorisation. The work aimed at investigating the quality traits of mountain honey samples from Kyrgyzstan, giving particular emphasis on the amino acid profiles and their possible relationship with the other chemical-physical characteristics. The moisture content, acidity, pH, and diastase activity of honey samples were within the limits established by normative documents. The honey samples showed a higher diastase activity ...More

Arsenic Removal by Electrocoagulation

Mehmet KOBYA

Because of the toxic impacts on human health, the arsenic (As) limit value in drinking water was decreased from 50 to 10 μg l −1 by the relevant authorities (WHO 1993; US EPA 2001). In this case, the problem of As pollution in natural water resources used for drinking water has grown even more and turned into a global crisis. According to reports in many parts of the world, over about 230 million people appear to be affected by high arsenic concentrations in groundwater. In this case, it turned out that there was a great need for cost-effective and environmentally friendly technologies from dr ...More

Broadband, Stable, and Noniterative Dielectric Constant Measurement of Low-Loss Dielectric Slabs Using a Frequency-Domain Free-Space Method

Mehmet ERTUĞRUL

A broadband, stable, and noniterative free-space method is proposed for dielectric constant ε′r determination of low-loss dielectric slabs from reflection-only measurements through simple calibration standards (reflect and air). It is applicable for dispersive samples and does not require thickness information. Simulations of nondisperive and dispersive samples are performed to validate our method. Dielectric constant measurements of polyethylene and polyoxymethylene samples (9–11 GHz) are carried out to examine the accuracy of our method.

Chemical Composition and Antioxidant Activity of Sea-Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) Grown in Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyz Republic

Aygül USUBALİYEVA | Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA

The fruit of sea-buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) is a rich source of nutrients and phytochemicals. This study determined the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of sea-buckthorn grown in Issyk-Kul region, Kyrgyz Republic, during maturation from August to November. Three different assays [ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), DPPH radical scavenging activity (DPPH), and cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC)] were used to determine the antioxidant activity of sea-buckthorn fruits. Sea-buckthorn fruits had a sugar content of 6.57-8.08 g/100g, a dietary fiber content ...More

Impact of Kara-Keche lignite mining on the Kara-Keche River water composition and properties = Влияние разработки Кара-Кечинского буроугольного месторождения на состав и свойства вод реки Кара-Кече

Kanatbek KOCOBAYEV | Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA | Nurzat ŞAYKİYEVA

On the evidence of the earlier research findings, as well as the full-scale and lab-scale test data of 2019–2020, this article describes the ecological situation at Kara-Keche lignite field being developed by five mining companies in the Jumgal district of the Naryn Region in the Kyrgyz Republic. It is found that the field development proceeds with insufficient adherence to legal documents and has a considerable adverse influence on the environment and water bodies. Many large-volume refuse dumps have no isolation from natural water bodies, which ends with acute pollution of the latter. Contam ...More

Synergistic effect of Fe and Co metals for the enhanced activation of hydrogen peroxide in the heterogeneous electro-Fenton process by Co-doped ZnFe layered double hydroxide

Mehmet KOBYA

Heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) is a powerful technology for the removal of emerging organic pollutants from wastewater. However, the development of catalysts with high activity towards the production of •OH by decomposing H2O2 remains a challenge. Herein, Co-doped ZnFe LDH as a heterogeneous catalyst with 2D plate-like morphology was produced by a co-precipitation method. Co-doping increased the pore volume of ZnFe LDH from 0.188 cm3/g to 0.2711 cm3/g and pore diameter from 5.305 nm and 9.39 nm. EF process consisted of a hydrothermally activated graphite felt cathode and a platinum plate an ...More

Waveform Correlation Based Harmonic Voltage Contribution Determination of Iron and Steel Plants Supplied From PCC

Özgül SALOR-DURNA

In this research work, a new method which determines the individual harmonic voltage contributions of the EAF plants supplied from a point of common coupling (PCC) to the PCC voltage is presented. EAFs are one of the most significant sources of the harmonics, especially the uncharacteristic ones, therefore it is important to be able to discriminate the amount of individual contributions from the feeders of a PCC supplying multiple EAFs. The proposed method uses the relationship derived between the correlation coefficient of the PCC voltage and the feeder current waveforms and the harmonic volt ...More

Estimating Engagement in Gamified Activities

Rita İSMAİLOVA

The premise behind gamified learning systems is that they improve students’ motivation. However, there is still a scarcity of studies on examining motivational sources that may drive targeted motivation and engagement in gamified learning activities. Improving our understanding of this aspect requires a multi-faceted approach that allows both identifying relevant motivators and assessing their significance. We address this gap by employing three well-recognized theoretical frameworks: Self-determination theory, Expectancy Value theory and Big 5 Personality theory in experimental research aimed ...More
