Prediction of soccer clubs' league rankings by machine learning methods: The case of Turkish Super League

Abdullah Erdal TÜMER

The aim of this research is to predict league rankings through various machine learning models using technical and physical parameters. This study followed a longitudinal observational analytical design. The SENTIO Sports optical tracking system was used to measure the physical demands and technical practices of the players in all matches. Then, the data regarding the last three seasons of the Turkish Super League (2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018), was collected. In this research, league rankings were estimated using three machine learning methods: Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Radial ...More

Investigation of Kyrgyz Learners’ Engagement in Online Courses

Gülşat MUHAMETJANOVA | Azat AKMATBEKOVA

This study aimed to investigate Kyrgyz learners' engagement in online courses. In this respect, the Student Engagement Scale and appropriate open-ended questions were employed in order to obtain data from learners. The sample covers 400 undergraduate learners studying at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. The study has a mixed research design, hence both quantitative and qualitative approaches were employed. The results of the study revealed that behavioral engagement has a significant effect on learner achievement. The study also demonstrated that the engagement of Kyrgyz learners in online cou ...More

The Scientific Environment in the Period When Ibn Lahi'a (d. 174/790) Lived İbn Lehî‘a’nın (ö. 174/790) Yaşadığı Dönemde İlmî Muhit

Bekir TATLI

In this article we will focus on a famous rawī, named Ibn Lahīʿa. It is possible to find Ibn Lahīʿa, whose lineage is mentioned as ʿAbd Allah ibn Lahīʿa b. ʿUqba al-Miṣrī, frequently in early jarḥ-taʿdīl sources and muṣannaf works. But, especially from the view of ḥāadīth narrations and rijāl criticism, he is often mentioned negatively. For example, among the statements about his jarḥ-taʿdīl status, we find such expressions as “He is ḍaʻīf (weak).”, “He is ḍaʻīf al-ḥadīth.”, “His ḥadīths do not qualify to be used as evidence.”, “He is not qawī.” or similar expressions which have become widespr ...More

Mixed Bacteriological Isolation Percentages from the Uterus of Cows Slaughtered due to Infertility

Ali RIŞVANLI

Background: Intrauterine mixed infections are an important problem in cattle breeding. In this study, we aimed to determine the mixed bacteriological isolation rates from the uterus of cows with clinical metritis and to reveal the relationships between the bacteria that isolated together. Methods: For this purpose, sterile swabs were taken from 490 uterus obtained from cattle slaughtered due to infertility in three slaughterhouses and used them to perform microbiological tests. After evaluating the data, it was determined that the bacterial isolation rate from uterus with clinical metritis was ...More

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) removal from real landfill leachate wastewater and simulated soil leachate by electrochemical oxidation process

Mehmet KOBYA

Poly and perfluoroalkyl compounds (PFASs) are a group of chemicals that are widely used and are difficult to purify. Within this group, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), known for its highly polar and strong carbon-fluorine bonds, is a frequently encountered species in surface water, drinking water, and groundwater. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of electrooxidation (EO) in PFOA removal, optimization of EO parameters, and groundwater simulation in a realistic scenario. The EO optimization experiments were performed with a boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode for different values of pH, ...More

Effect of somatic cell count on milk composition and some chemical properties of milk

Ali RIŞVANLI

Subclinical mastitis is a very important disease for dairy cattle farms. As a result of the deterioration of milk quality, it causes economic losses in enterprises. Milk samples of 180 cows were divided into five groups according to the somatic cell count. Some chemical properties and composition were measured in milk samples. The ratio of solid-non-fat, mineral matter, lactose, and protein decreased as the somatic cell count of the milk increased (P < 0.05). No statistical difference was observed between the fat content of milk and the level of somatic cell count (P > 0.05). Although specific ...More

Educational Metaphors: High School Students' Perceptions of Schools in Kyrgyzstan

Kişimcan EŞENKULOVA | Kadiyan BOOBEKOVA

Focusing on the case study of post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan, this article examines high school students' perception of their schools and education by using metaphors. A total of 1433 high school students participated in this research. Based on the data that we collected from 9th and 10th grade students during field research (January - February 2020) in various regions of Kyrgyzstan and analysed students' answers about their schools. The findings show that the study's participants produced 178 metaphors about their schools. The participants used 102 positive, 108 negative metaphors and 32 metaphors fo ...More

ON OPTIMAL CONTROL OF THE INITIAL VELOCITY OF AN EULER-BERNOULLI BEAM SYSTEM

Ercan ÇELİK

In this study, we consider an optimal control problem for an Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. The initial velocity of the system is given by the control function. We give sufficient conditions for the existence of a unique solution of the hyperbolic system and prove that the optimal solution for the considered optimal control problem is exists and unique. After obtaining the Frechet derivative of the cost functional via an adjoint problem, we also give an iteration algorithm for the numerical solution of the problem by using the Gradient method. Finally, we furnish some numerical examples to dem ...More

Effects of botanical gardens on student environmental perception

Hasan YILMAZ

This paper examines the role of the classroom environment in promoting student well-being and, more specif-ically, a sense of responsibility towards nature in the city. The study analyzed how indoor vs outdoor educational environments affect students' perception of events and phenomena focusing on emotional, behavioral and cognitive processes. It was conducted in the Kayakyolu Secondary School, Erzurum, Turkey with 282 students ranging in age from 11 to 14 in grades 5-8. They participated in reading a story in two distinct environments: an enclosed indoor classroom and an outdoor botanical gar ...More

A new host for Fusarium algeriense causing crown and root rot on barley in Kyrgyzstan

Sezim COLDOŞBEKOVA | İsmail ERPER

After maize, wheat and rice, barley is the most widely planted and economically important cereal crop in the Kyrgyzstan's highlands (Usubaliev et al., 2013) and worldwide. In two barley fields in the Manas district of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, diseased plants exhibiting crown and root rot, stunting and brown discolouration on internodes were observed in 2020. Disease incidence was approximately 5 in the two fields.Small sections of root and crown tissues from diseased plants were surface sterilised in 1 (v/v) sodium hypochlorite solution for one minute before being placed onto potato dextrose agar ...More

A Nonlinear Panel ARDL Analysis of Pollution Haven/Halo Hypothesis

Zamira ÖSKÖNBAYEVA

There is a growing popularity for the nonlinear econometric approaches, since linkages among variables are not always linear. Nonlinear approaches provide a broader range of knowledge compared to the linear model. This research aims to assess the impact of foreign direct investment on pollution. To capture the potential asymmetries resulting from rise and fall in the foreign direct investments, the nonlinear panel autoregressive distributed lag approach is employed. In the empirical analysis, annual data of selected 22 transition economies from 1995 to 2016 is utilized. The findings highlighte ...More
