Freezing-thawing and impact resistance of concretes containing waste crumb rubbers

Tahir GÖNEN

Millions of tires are discarded every year. Disposal or recycling-reusing of waste tire rubber has become a big environmental problem in the world. In this study, it was aimed to determine the freezing-thawing, impact resistance, compressive strength and capillary water absorption rate, when the granulated waste rubber parts are used in the non-load-bearing concrete. Granulated crumb rubbers obtained from waste tires were used at two different grain diameters of 1 and 2 mm as the maximum value. A total of 9 different series were prepared, one of them being the control group and the others bein ...More

The effect of geographical margins on cereal grain size variation: Case study for highlands of Kyrgyzstan

Kubatbek TABALDİYEV

Archaeobotanical research in prehistoric Central Asia and beyond has repeatedly reported highly compact wheat and barley varieties found along piedmont sites of the Inner Asian Mountain Corridor (IAMC). The morphotypical variation of wheat caryopses across Eurasia generated the Liu et al. (2016) publication pointing out a decrease in grain size relative to eastward dispersal into China; the decrease in wheat caryopses was explained as human selection of smaller grain sizes for better culinary properties. In this study we discuss the possible effect of geographical margin, mountains in partic ...More

Effect of surfactant materials to nanoparticles formation under pulsed plasma conditions and their antibacterial properties

Emil ÖMÜRZAK | Ruslan ADİL AKAY TEGİN

Pulsed plasma between two Zn rods submerged into aqueous solution of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) surfactants resulted in formation of pure ZnO nanorods, while the pulsed plasma between two Zn rods in water without surfactant yielded a mixture of ZnO and Zn nanoparticles. Carbon coated ZnO nanorods with about 20 nm thickness and 150 nm length were synthesized by this method using different surfactant materials such as CTAB and SDS. Cu nanoparticles of about 10 nm in size were also synthesized by the pulsed plasma in aqueous solution of 0.2 % gelatine ...More
