Çarles KARLSON

The article attempts to determine the national specificity of the concept learning in German and Russian by means of free association experiment. In the experiment, intermediate school students from different types of institutions of learning in Germany and Russia took part. The resulting associate words made it possible to reveal the general and nationally specific in the conceptual sphere of the students, and also to determine the attitude towards German and Russian teaching of schoolchildren. The scientific novelty is as follows: the concept learning is first analyzed from the standpoint of ...More

Uncertainty Perpetuated? The Pitfalls of a Weakly Institutionalized Party System in Kyrgyzstan

Asel DOOLOTKELDIEVA

The parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan in October 2015 garnered widespread approval from commentators for the level of fairness and freedom maintained throughout the campaign. However, the results of the vote do not provide a clear indication of the current state of affairs of parliamentarism in the republic. Focusing on the commercialization of party lists, we argue that neither identity politics nor the logic of neopatrimonialism adequately explain the dynamics of political competition in Kyrgyzstan. Instead, we see perpetual uncertainty emerging from contradicting yet increasing attempts ...More

On the Sharp Inequalities for Orthonormal Polynomials Along a Contour

Fahreddin ABDULLAYEV

In this work, we investigate the order of growth of the modulus of an arbitrary algebraic polynomials in the weighted Lebesgue space, where the contour and the weight functions have some singularities. In particular, we obtain new exact estimations for the growth of the modulus of orthogonal polynomials

Does more energy consumption support economic growth in net energy-importing countries?

Metin BAYRAK

Purpose – This study aims to examine the effects of energy consumption on economic growth by means of a panel data analysis of 75 net energy-importing countries for the period 1990 to 2012. Design/methodology/approach – For the purpose of the analysis, the countries are classified into two groups, and each group is then classified into subgroups. The first group is formed based on the energy import dependence of the countries and is classified into two subgroups according to whether their dependence is greater than or less than 50 per cent. The second group is formed based on the income level ...More

Genetic diversity of the 3ꞌ and 5ꞌ untranslated regions of the HSP70.1 gene between native Turkish and Holstein Friesian cattle breeds

Abdulkadir KESKİN

Heat stress proteins are important factors in protecting cells against environmental stress. The HSP70.1 gene is one of the most important members of the heat stress protein family, which is essential for life, production and reproduction. In this study, partial regions of HSP70.1 (3' and 5' untranslated regions (UTRs)) were sequenced in six cattle breeds. Blood samples of five native breeds, namely Yerli Kara (YK), Boz irk (BI), Yerli Guney Sarisi (YGS), Guney Dogu Anadolu Kirmizisi (GAK) and Dogu Anadolu Kirmizisi (DAK) were collected from their native regions and blood samples of the Holste ...More

Development of A Multiplex PCR Method for Direct Detection of Common Mastitis Pathogens in Bovine Milk Samples = Mastitisli İnek Sütlerinde Önemli Patojenlerin Direkt Tespiti İçin Bir Multipleks PCR Yönteminin Geliştirilmesi

Murat KARAHAN

The aim of this study was to evaluate a simple and rapid DNA extraction method combined with a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) for the identification of the major mastitis pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Escherichia coli and Mycoplasma bovis) from milk samples. Of the 200 California Mastitis Test (CMT) positive milk samples, 45 (22.5%), 21 (10.5%) and 11 (5.5%) were detected as positive for the presence of S. aureus, S. agalactiae and E. coli by culture, respectively. In mPCR by DNA isolation method optimised here, S. aureus, S. agalactiae and E. coli wer ...More

Remittances and labor supply of the left-behind youth: Evidence from Kyrgyzstan

Kamalbek KARIMŞAKOV | Burulça SULAYMANOVA | Raziyahan ABDİYEVA

This paper examines whether remittances from international migration impact on the occupational choice of left-behind youth in Kyrgyzstan. Labor supply is analyzed both at the extensive and intensive margins using cross-sectional data for 2011. To overcome endogeneity concerns, an instrumental variable approach was implemented. Findings demonstrate that migration, rather than remittances, pushes the left-behind youth to become unpaid family workers. This is explained by the substitution effect as the youth left behind are called upon to replace the migrant labor. Moreover, this effect is heter ...More

New Findings on Basmachi Movement in Kyrgyzstan (1925-1934) = Kırgızistan’da Basmacı Hareketiyle İlgili Yeni Bilgiler (1925-1934)
