Selective separation of gallium from various ions by polymer inclusion membranes based on CTA/PVC blend using TOPO as carrier

Osman TUTKUN | Kurmancan KAPAROVA

Selective transport of gallium from HCl media containing other ions such as Zn, Co, and Ni, by polymer inclusion membranes (PIM), based on CTA/PVC blend using trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) as carrier and 2-nitrophenylpentyl ether (2-NPPE) as plasticizer is studied. The effect of various parameters such as the HCl concenration in the feed, HCl concenration in the stripping phase, carrier (TOPO) concentration, 2-NPPE concentration, the cellulose triacetate (CTA)/poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) as the polymer-blend was experimentally studied and the optimum conditions were determined. It was possible ...More

Optimisation of elastomeric bearings' vulcanisation process using response surface methodology and desirability function approach

Kasım BAYNAL

In this study, response surface methodology and desirability function approach (DFA) were used to optimise the vulcanisation process of elastomeric bearings to obtain better quality products. For this purpose, compressive stiffness and vertical deflection under maximum load were determined as response variables with a target at 198 kN/mm and 3.46 mm, respectively, in accordance with customer's request. Time, temperature and pressure were considered as control variables of the process. Experimental combinations were determined using Box-Behnken design and two repetitions were made in each combi ...More

The Effect of Curing Conditions on Permeation of Self-Compacting Lightweight Concrete with Basaltic Pumice Aggregate

Tahir GÖNEN

This paper introduces an experimental research about the influences of the curing type on accelerated carbonation, capillary water absorption and permeability of a range of different self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) mixtures in comparison with those of chosen conventional vibrated lightweight concrete (LC) and self-compacting concrete (SCC). Seven different concrete compositions are considered: four SCLC, two SCC and one LC mixtures. All of the SCLC mixtures and one of the SCC and one LC mixture with a constant powder dosage of 550 kg/m(3) was designed to be containing 440 kg/m(3) o ...More
