Employment Vulnerability and Earnings in Kyrgyzstan

Employment vulnerability is considered as working under inadequate conditions. This research examined the impact of employment vulnerability on earnings with special reference to gender-based differences. Analyses were based on panel data for 2010-2013 and 2016 from the household survey. A panel data fixed-effects model with instrumental variable within the Lewbel (2012) method was applied to estimate an earnings equation. The main aim of this paper is to construct a latest Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for Kyrgyzstan economy for the year 2010. The constructed SAM shows the interaction between production, income, consumption and capital accumulation in the economy. Remittances and labor supply of the left-behind youth: Evidence from Kyrgyzstan

This paper examines whether remittances from international migration impact on the occupational choice of left-behind youth in Kyrgyzstan. Labor supply is analyzed both at the extensive and intensive margins using cross-sectional data for 2011. To overcome endogeneity concerns, an instrumental variable approach was implemented. Findings demonstrate that migration, rather than remittances, pushes the left-behind youth to become unpaid family workers. This study aims to examine performance of artificial neural networks (ANN) in forecasting stock market index movement. The forecasting is based on two samples of Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) data and each consisting of 150 observations. Forecasting performance is assessed in one, five and ten day periods. Results show that ANN gives high percentage of correctly forecasted signs. This performance is particularly evident in five days period, while conventional approach mostly uses next day forecasting. Gender differences, risk attitude and entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan

This study analyses the role of risk attitude for entrepreneurship by gender differences in Kyrgyzstan. Logit analysis is applied to the cross-sectional data set drawn from the nationally representative survey for 2011. Entrepreneurship is measured by the self-employment activities and analysed by the agricultural and non-agricultural sample. Results of the study show that more risk-taking preferences are associated with higher entrepreneurship probability. This paper aims to study the determinants of innovation activity of small and medium-sized enterprises in five small post-Soviet countries. Empirical analysis is based on the data from the fifth wave of the Business Environment and Enterprise Performance Survey. Innovation of SMEs is measured with five innovation practices. Banking in transition economies differs from developing and developed economies with market system. This study aims to review development of the banking system in Kyrgyzstan since independence. The period under consideration is divided into five stages, each of which has a main distinctive aspect. Despite considerable achievements in last fifteen years the banking system still remains vulnerable to external shocks. Moreover, insufficient institutional infrastructure is one of the fundamental factors retarding further development of the banking system.
