Physiological, Morphological and Biochemical Responses of Exogenous Hydrogen Sulfide in Salt-Stressed Tomato Seedlings

Atilla DURSUN

Salinity causes yield and quality losses in agricultural production and therefore great economic losses around the world. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is known to play a crucial role to ease physiological and metabolic processes in plants, and also increases the tolerance of the plant against many abiotic stress conditions. In this study, we investigated the effects of H2S treatments (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mu M NaHS were applied as H2S donor) to the tomato seedlings to alleviate the harmful effects of salt stress (0, 75 and 150 mM NaCl). There was a significant decrease in plant growth and developme ...Более

Improving salt tolerance of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) with hydrogen sulfide

Atilla DURSUN

The current study examined the H2S applications on growth, biochemical and physiological parameters of bean seedlings under saline conditions. The findings of the study indicated that salt stress decreased plant growth and development, photosynthetic activity, and mineral and hormone content [excluding abscisic acid (ABA)] in bean seedlings. Plant and root fresh mass and dry mass with H2S applications increased as compared to the control treatment at the same salinity level. Both salinity and H2S treatments significantly affected the net assimilation rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration r ...Более

Effect of Microbial Fertilizer on The Development of Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Seedlings Exposed to Salt Stress

Atilla DURSUN

Salinity is an important abiotic stress factor that negatively affects plant growth and yield. The study, the effect of microbial fertilizer containing Bacillus subtilis bacteria, commercially named Subtima, on salt stress in pepper was observed. Two different saline solutions (100 mM and 200 mM) were prepared to create salt stress in the plant growing medium. The fertilizer solution was applied to the plants in 4 different concentrations (300, 400, 500 and 600 ppm) from the leaves in the form of a spray. Morphological parameters such as plant height, stem length, leaf length, leaf width, and ...Более

Identification of water stress-tolerant edible pumpkin seed (Cucurbita pepo) genotypes using seed yield-based tolerance indices

Atilla DURSUN

Pumpkin is usually cultivated in arid and semiarid regions, and the lack of water stress-tolerant cultivars is a major limiting factor. Therefore, this study was carried out to identify superior water stress-tolerant genotypes. For this purpose, 44 inbred lines with superior agronomic traits were selected from the gene pool. In addition, two hybrids (G1-Mert Bey F1 and G2-Sena Hanim F1) and two landraces (G3-Hatun Tırnağı and G4-Cercevelik) with high commercial value were used as commercial cultivars. The water stress indices were calculated from seed yields from the pumpkin genotypes grown in ...Более

Examination of morphological and molecular changes in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) seedlings with the application of tebuconazole

Atilla DURSUN

This study aims to determine the effects of tebuconazole substance used at different doses on the quality of tomato seedlings, retrotransposon mobility caused by this substance in the plants and its genotoxic effects and to determine the optimum dose to be used in practice in seedling production. Tebuconazole applied different concentrations (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 ppm) were tested. According to the study results, the seedling length and stem length significantly according to the applied doses. The study found out that the stem, leaf and root dry matter contents and leaf chlorophyll cont ...Более

Improvement of frost tolerance in tomato by foliar application of potassium sulphate

Atilla DURSUN

The study aimed to determine the mean low-temperature exotherms (LTE) of the shoot tip of the dOmur F-1, Cuma F-1, Safir F-1, VT-1770, Elibol F-1, and Adelya F-1 tomato cultivars and Yerli-14 and Yerli-24 local tomato genotypes. Moreover, this investigation intended to specify the most effective dose of potassium sulfate with its efficacy time by applying four different doses of potassium sulfate (K2SO4) foliar fertilizer on the most and least tolerant cultivar. The mean LTE of the shoot tip of seedlings was determined by using differential thermal analysis (DTA). In the second part of the stu ...Более

Using Paclobutrazol, Daminozide, Chlormequat, Propiconazole on Vegetative Growth and Flowering Control of Zinnia Paclobutrazol, Daminozid, Klormequat, Propiconazole Zinnia'nın Vejetatif Büyümesi ve Çiçek Kontrolü Üzerinde Kullanılması

Atilla DURSUN

PGRs such as paclobutrazol, daminozide, chlormequat and propiconazole help to alter various growth characteristics of plants and they are used commonly in the modern production system of ornamental plants. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the optimum dose, decreasing and increasing amounts of the optimum dose of paclobutrazol, daminozide, chlormequat and propiconazole used in the modern production system of zinnia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) vegetative growth parameters and flowering in a greenhouse experiment. Plant height was reduced with the administration of 2 g L-1 of ...Более

Monitoring Nutrient Uptake of Chard (Beta vulgaris var. cicla L.) Exposed to Exogenously Applied Nitric Oxide under Drought Stress

Atilla DURSUN

Nutrient uptake of chard under well-watered and drought conditions with different NO applications were investigated in this research. NO solutions were prepared with four doses (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 µM) of sodium nitroprusside as a nitric oxide source and exogenously applied on only seeds (s) or together with seed and foliar (sf) of chard under different levels of drought according to 100% (control), 67% and 33% of the water required to reach field capacity. Nutrient uptake drastically decreased under drought stress. However, progressive effects of NO applications on nutrient uptake have be ...Более

Investigation of genetic diversity of squash (Cucurbita maxima Duchesne) genotypes collected from Erzincan in Turkey

Atilla DURSUN

Plant genetic resources constitute the most valuable assets of countries. It is of great importance to determine the genetic variation among these resources and to use the data in breeding studies. Cucurbita maxima species in the Cucurbitaceae family have high genetic diversity, but molecular genetic diversity studies of this species are insufficient in Turkey. To determine the genetic diversity among genotypes of Cucurbita maxima species of squash, which is widely grown in Erzincan, 14 different squash genotypes collected were examined based on the morphological parameters and molecular chara ...Более

Interactive effects of salinity and drought stress on photosynthetic characteristics and physiology of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) seedlings

Atilla DURSUN

Sufficient quantity and quality of water are essential for vegetable production. Evaluating the individual and combined effects of drought and salt stress on plant establishment may help inform management of plant production in terms of stabilizing yield. This study investigates the effects of drought and salt stress on plant growth, nutrition elements, and select physiological parameters of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L. cv. H2274) through a pot experiment under greenhouse conditions. Drought stress was applied to tomato seedlings at 3 different levels of irrigation: D0 (control), D1, an ...Более
