The Effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Lead (Pb)Applications on Eggplant Seedling Growth and Nutrient Uptake

Mustafa PAKSOY | Önder TÜRKMEN

There are many factors, which negatively affect plant development. One of these factors is lead (Pb), which causes toxic effects on plants during the seedling period. Mycorrhizas (AMF) contribute positively to plant growth. In eggplant seedlings, it has been researched whether to tolerate the negative effects of lead with mycorrhizas. In the study, Gigaspora margarita (Gm) and Glomus intraradices (Gi) mycorrhizal races were applied before seeds were sown. After the first true leaves appeared, 5 different doses of Pb (0, 100, 200, 400 and 800 ppm) were given. As a result, the earliest true leaf ...Более

The efficiency of cationic-based hydrogels in heavy metal removal from wastewater

Bakıt BORKOYEV | Kalıypa SALİYEVA

The present study draws attention to arsenic (V) (As(V)), chromium (III) (Cr(III)), and chromium (VI) (Cr(VI)) heavy metal pollutants, which have negative effects on aquatic ecosystems and indirectly pose a serious threat to the health of living things in the environment. Homopolymer and copolymer hydrogels were synthesized by the UV polymerization technique using 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propansulfonic acid sodium salt (AMPS) and 3-acrlylamidopropil-trimethyl ammonium chloride monomers, and a crosslinker aimed to improve the swelling properties and metal sorption of the prepared hydrogels. The ...Более

Screening of damage induced by lead (Pb) in rye (Secale cereale L.) – a genetic and physiological approach

İlhan DOĞAN

The fields in which lead (Pb) finds application in the modern world have increased dramatically in recent years. As a consequence of this intensive utilization of Pb, its toxicity tends to pose more and more environmental problems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxic potential of Pb and to characterize some physiological parameters in Secale cereale under Pb stress. Plants were subjected to different exposure levels of Pb (0, 100, 200 and 400 µmol/L) for two weeks. At the end of the experimental period, the effects of Pb exposure on the photosynthetic pigments content (chloroph ...Более

A novel sensitive Cu(II) and Cd(II) nanosensor platform: Graphene oxide terminated p-aminophenyl modified glassy carbon surface

Ali Osman SOLAK

Graphene oxide (GO) based glassy carbon (GC) electrode has been prepared. Firstly, p-nitrophenyl (NP) modified GC (NP/GC) electrode was prepared via the electrochemical reduction of its tetraflouroborate diazonium salt. After the formation of NP/GC electrode, the negative potential was applied to NP/GC electrode to reduce the nitro groups to amine. p-Aminophenyl (AP) modified GC (AP/GC) electrode was immersed into a graphene oxide solution containing 1-ethyl-3(3-(dimethlyamino)propyl)-carbodiimide. Hence, we constructed GO terminated AP modified GC (GO/AP/GC) electrode. NP/GC, AP/GC and GO/AP/ ...Более

Comparative analyses of phytochelatin synthase (PCS) genes in higher plants

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

Plants employ various defence strategies to ameliorate the effects of heavy metal exposures, leading to re-establishment of metal homeostasis. One of the strategies includes the biosynthesis of main heavy metal detoxifying peptides phytochelatins (PCs) by phytochelatin synthase (PCS). In the present study, 14 PCS homologues were identified in the genomes of 10 selected plants. The size of these PCSs was 452-545 amino acid residues, with characteristic phytochelatin and phytochelatin_C domains. The N-terminal site of the proteins is highly conserved, whereas the C-terminal site is less conserve ...Более

Physiological and biochemical effects of nickel on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) tissues: Assessment of nuclear factor kappa B activation, oxidative stress and histopathological changes

Ertan ORUC

We investigated changes in nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB) activity, antioxidant responses and histopathological effects in the liver, gill and kidney tissues of rainbow trout exposed to nickel chloride (Ni). Two different concentrations (1 mg/L and 2 mg/L) were administrated to fish for 21 days. Tissues were taken from all fish for NFkB activity, histopathological examination and determination of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) enzyme activity and of lipid peroxidation (LPO), and glutathione (GSH) levels. The findings of this study indicated that Ni exposure led to a significant incr ...Более
