Coenurosis caused by Coenurus cerebralis poses a significant economic threat to sheep. To date, no effective treatment has been identified for this parasitic infection once it has settled in the brain. This study aimed to investigate the surgical removal of C. cerebralis cysts from the brains of infected sheep. Twenty sheep were utilized in the experiment, and the animals underwent a 24-hour fasting period before the surgical procedure. Various biochemical parameters, including TP, ALP, BUN, AST, CK, LDH, RBC, WBC, Hb, and Hct, were measured in the animals both before and one month after the o ...Более

Human Exposure to Naturally Occurring Bacillus anthracis in the Kars Region of Eastern Türkiye

Mitat ŞAHİN

Environmental contamination with Bacillus anthracis spores poses uncertain threats to human health. We undertook a study to determine whether inhabitants of the anthrax-endemic region of Kars in eastern Türkiye could develop immune responses to anthrax toxins without recognised clinical infection. We measured anti-PA and anti-LF IgG antibody concentrations by ELISA in serum from 279 volunteers, 105 of whom had previously diagnosed anthrax infection (100 cutaneous, 5 gastrointestinal). Of the 174 without history of infection, 72 had prior contact with anthrax-contaminated material. Individuals ...Более

Antibacterial effectiveness of combined sodium hypochlorite and diode laser therapy with different parameters against S. Aureus biofilm

Mitat ŞAHİN

Aim: In this study, we aimed to assess the antibacterial efficacy of both single and combined sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and diode laser on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) biofilm. Material and Methods: Eighty-four premolars were randomly assigned to groups. The Experimental groups were as follows: group 1; 5.25 NaOCl; groups 2-4; diode laser (0,7; 1,5; 2,5 W); Groups 5-7; combined laser and NaOCl. Statistical evaluations were made by Kruskal -Wallis and Mann- Whitney U tests. Results: The 2.5 W diode laser showed a high potential for elimination of S.aureus, similar to NaOCl (p>0.05). 0,7 ...Более

The Role of Bee Products in the Control of Antimicrobial Resistance and Biofilm Formation

Ulaş ACARÖZ | Fatih Ramazan İSTANBULLUGİL | Damla ARSLAN ACARÖZ

The discovery of antibiotics saved many lives. Infections were not as deadly a problem for clinicians as they once were. However, due to inappropriate and excessive use of antibiotics, antibiotic resistance has increased dramatically worldwide. Infectious diseases are becoming more challenging to control, and they cause increased morbidity and mortality. Also, a significant risk to human health is posed by infections associated with biofilms. To combat these drug-resistant microorganisms, several novel and alternative strategies have been identified. Bee products such as honey, bee pollen, pro ...Более

Genetic analysis of PALB2 gene WD40 domain in canine mammary tumour patients

Ali RIŞVANLI

Background: DNA repair mechanisms are essential for tumorigenesis and disruption of HR mechanism is an important predisposing factor of human breast cancers (BC). PALB2 is an important part of the HR. There are similarities between canine mammary tumours (CMT) and BCs. As its human counterpart, PALB2 mutations could be a predisposing factor of CMT. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to investigate the impacts of PALB2 variants on tumorigenesis and canine mammary tumor (CMT) malignancy. Methods: We performed Sanger sequencing to detect germline mutations in the WD40 domain of the canine PALB2 ...Более

Physiological and metabolic responses in Kök-Börü horses: Correlations with game outcomes

Ali RIŞVANLI | İsmail ŞEN | Kanat CANUZAKOV | Askarbek TÜLÖBAEV | Ruslan SALIKOV | Nezahat CEYLAN | Arina KAZAKBAYEVA | Ayday CUNUŞOVA | Nur ABDIMANAP UULU | Ünal TÜRKÇAPAR | Ulanbek ALİMOV

Background: The aim of this study was to examine variations in stress, metabolic, and physiological parameters of horses used in the traditional equestrian team sport of Kök-Börü in relation to winning and losing outcomes. Material and methods: To accomplish this, blood samples were taken from horses on four different teams who participated in two separate games, both before and after game. These samples were used to measure levels of cortisol, ACTH, beta-endorphin, adrenaline, noradrenaline, triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroxine (T4) via species-specific commercial ELISA kits. The autoanalyzer ...Более

Metrisor: A novel diagnostic method for metritis detection in cattle based on machine learning and sensors

Ali RIŞVANLI

The Metrisor device has been developed using gas sensors for rapid, highly accurate and effective diagnosis of metritis. 513 cattle uteri were collected from abattoirs and swabs were taken for microbiological testing. The Metrisor device was used to measure intrauterine gases. The results showed a bacterial growth rate of 75.75 in uteri with clinical metritis. In uteri positive for clinical metritis, the most commonly isolated and identified bacteria were Trueperella pyogenes, Fusobacterium necrophorum and Escherichia coli. Measurements taken with Metrisor to determine the presence of metritis ...Более

Survey of tick-borne pathogens in grazing horses in Kyrgyzstan: phylogenetic analysis, genetic diversity, and prevalence of Theileria equi

Ayperi Aytmırza Kızı

Introduction: Tick-borne pathogens (TBP) are an important group of organisms that can affect animals and humans all over the world. Equine piroplasmosis (EP), caused by Theileria equi and Babesia caballi, is considered one of the most important tick-borne diseases and can cause significant clinical symptoms and mortality in horses. Moreover, EP plays a restrictive role in international horse traditions and transportation. Although these species can cause similar symptoms, there are different 18S rRNA genotypes of T. equi (five genotypes) and B. caballi (three genotypes). Besides piroplasma spe ...Более
