Exploring of the ameliorative effects of Nerium (Nerium oleander L.) ethanolic flower extract in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats via biochemical, histological and molecular aspects

Ali ASLAN

Background: Nerium oleander L. is ethnopharmacologically used for diabetes. Our aim was to investigate the ameliorative effects of ethanolic Nerium flower extract (NFE) in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Methods: Seven random groups including control group, NFE group (50 mg/kg), diabetic group, glibenclamide group and NFE treated groups (25 mg/kg, 75 mg/kg, and 225 mg/kg) were composed of forty-nine rats. Blood glucose level, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), insulin level, liver damage parameters and lipid profile parameters were investigated. Antioxidant defense system enzyme activities and reduced gl ...Более

Comparative modeling and enzymatic affinity of novel haloacid dehalogenase from Bacillus megaterium strain BHS1 isolated from alkaline Blue Lake in Turkey

Yılmaz KAYA

This study presents the initial structural model of L-haloacid dehalogenase (DehLBHS1) from Bacillus megaterium BHS1, an alkalotolerant bacterium known for its ability to degrade halogenated environmental pollutants. The model provides insights into the structural features of DehLBHS1 and expands our understanding of the enzymatic mechanisms involved in the degradation of these hazardous pollutants. Key amino acid residues (Arg40, Phe59, Asn118, Asn176, and Trp178) in DehLBHS1 were identified to play critical roles in catalysis and molecular recognition of haloalkanoic acid, essential for effi ...Более

Epidemiological characteristics and financial losses due to avian aspergillosis in households in the Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan

Nurbek ALDAYAROV

Aspergillosis is a severe fungal disease that affects all species and ages of poultry and leads to significant economic losses within the poultry industry. The economic significance of aspergillosis is associated with direct losses due to poultry mortality, a decline in the production of meat and eggs, feed conversion, and poor growth of recovering poultry. Although a decrease in the production of poultry meat and eggs in Kazakhstan due to this fungal disease has been widely reported, studies on the consequent financial losses on affected farms (households) have not been carried out. This stud ...Более

The power of retrotransposons in high-throughput genotyping and sequencing

Yılmaz KAYA

The use of molecular markers has become an essential part of molecular genetics through their application in numerous fields, which includes identification of genes associated with targeted traits, operation of backcrossing programs, modern plant breeding, genetic characterization, and marker-assisted selection. Transposable elements are a core component of all eukaryotic genomes, making them suitable as molecular markers. Most of the large plant genomes consist primarily of transposable elements; variations in their abundance contribute to most of the variation in genome size. Retrotransposon ...Более

Production of secondary metabolites using tissue culture-based biotechnological applications

Yılmaz KAYA

Plants are the sources of many bioactive secondary metabolites which are present in plant organs including leaves, stems, roots, and flowers. Although they provide advantages to the plants in many cases, they are not necessary for metabolisms related to growth, development, and reproduction. They are specific to plant species and are precursor substances, which can be modified for generations of various compounds in different plant species. Secondary metabolites are used in many industries, including dye, food processing and cosmetic industries, and in agricultural control as well as being use ...Более

Lichens as Biomonitors of Air Pollutants Deposition: Strategically Important Element Pollution

Ali ASLAN

Investigation of various species of lichen as biomonitors of air pollutants deposition and evaluation of element pollution were aimed. Maximum accumulation was 43.9±2.1 mg/kg in X. somloensis. Strontium in lichen species was quite high. Percentages of strontium for L.pulmonaria, C.furcata, U.longissima, X.somloensis, and F.caperata were between 58 and 78 indicating the efficient accumulation of strontium. Lichens were also accumulated strategically important elements. Maximum contamination factors in lichens were for strontium and tantalum. Maximum contamination factors of hafnium, niobium, li ...Более

Determination of some trace elements in various lichens as biomonitors of pollution and assessment of pollution status

Ali ASLAN

Some trace elements in various lichens as biomonitors of pollution were investigated. Also, the pollution status was assessed by enrichment factor, contamination factor, and pollution load index. Investigated elements were Ta, Bi, Hf, Nb, Ga, Sc, Li, Y, Ce, and Sr. The lichen species were Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca, Umbilicaria vellea, Aspicilia calcarea, Pseudevernia furfuracea, and Cetraria islandica. According to the results, lichen species accumulate Sr element well. The highest trace element accumulated by Pseudevernia furfuracea (21.7±1.0 mg/kg; 75), Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca (31.9±1.6 mg/kg; 6 ...Более

The effect of leaf blight disease of rice caused by Pantoea ananatis on Nikita, Osr30 and RIRE1 retrotransposons’ movements

Yılmaz KAYA

Changing environmental conditions can cause diseases in plants, leading to novel interactions between plants and stress factors. In this respect, the relationships between pathogens and plants regarding epigenetics have still been investigated. Our aim is to examine the effect of leaf blight bacterial causal agent, Pantoea ananatis isolate PaTo34a1, on barley- and rice-specific retrotransposons’ (Nikita, Osr30 and RIRE1, respectively) movements in different rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L. cv. Tosya, Cameo, Arize, Ronaldo, Osmancik-97, Kale, Baldo, Bafra, Hakkari and Vasco) collected from diffe ...Более

Differentiation of Bos grunniens and Bos Taurus based on STR locus polymorphism = Дифференциация Bos grunniens и Bos taurus на основании полиморфизма STR-локусов

Kadırbay ÇEKİROV | Bermet KIDIRALİYEVA

Differentiation of closely related biological species using molecular genetic analysis is important for breeding farm animals, creating hybrid lines, maintaining the genetic purity of breeds, lines and layering. Bos grunniens and Bos taurus differentiation based on STR locus polymorphism will help maintain the genetic isolation of these species and identify hybrid individuals. The aim of this study is to assess the differentiating potential of 15 microsatellite locito distinguish between domestic yak (B. grunniens) bred in the Kalmak-Ashuu highland region (Kochkor district, Naryn region, Kyrgy ...Более

ANALYSES of P-Tst-1, P-Tst-3 and P-Tst-6 RETROTRANSPOSONS IN CONVENTIONALLY AND ORGANICALLY PRODUCED TOMATOES

Yılmaz KAYA

Tomato is one of the best-studied cultivated dicotyledonous plants in molecular studies. Mobile genetic elements constitute large parts of plant genomes. Retrotransposons are mobile genetic elements within the genome and constitute more than 60 of the tomato genome.Transposable elements (TE) or transposons are DNA sequences that can alter their position within a genome, cause mutations and change the genetic identity of the cells and genome size. We aimed to analyze potato specific-P-Tst-1, P-Tst-3 and P-Tst-6 retrotransposon movements in tomatoes at different developmental stages (mature seed ...Более
