Economic Impacts of Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) Cotton

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

In recent years, high-yield production has gained importance due to the decrease in agricultural fields in the world and the rapid increase in the population. Cotton is an important source of income for farmers worldwide and is an important crop, especially for the textile industry. Bt-cotton technology, which entered our lives in 1996, has been quickly adopted in many developed and developing countries. It has been shown to provide advantages in many areas. In particular, the economic growth is gaining importance every year. Additionally, it has also brought an environmentally friendly soluti ...Более

Lemna minor, a hyperaccumulator shows elevated levels of Cd accumulation and genomic template stability in binary application of Cd and Ni: a physiological and genetic approach

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

In this study, to determine whether having potential to be used as hyperaccumulator for Cd and Ni, numerous experiments were designed for conducting assessments for physiological and genotoxic changes along with defining possible alterations on mineral nutrient status of Lemna minor L. by applying Cd-Ni binary treatments (0, 100, 200 and 400 mu M). Our study revealed that there were increases in the concentrations of B, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, and Mn whereas decreases were noticed in the concentrations of Na and Zn and the levels of Ca were inversely proportional to Cd-Ni applications showing tendency ...Более

Multidimensional Scaling of the Mineral Nutrient Status and Health Risk Assessment of Commonly Consumed Fruity Vegetables Marketed in Kyrgyzstan

Hasan CAN | İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

Intensive production of fruits and vegetables causes heavy metal accumulation. Consumption of this kind of foodstuff is a growing concern of the modern world with the additional distress of the supply of enough foodstuffs. To contribute to this global purpose, this research aimed to find out the mineral nutrient and heavy metal concentrations of commonly consumed fruity vegetables in Kyrgyzstan. Totally, ten different fruity type vegetables were collected from five different large bazaars of Kyrgyzstan. From these, 20 samples, including washed/unwashed rinds of vegetables, were quantified in t ...Более

MINERAL NUTRIENT COMPOSITIONS OF FIELD-GROWN WEED AND MAIZE (Zea mays L.) PLANTS IN TERMS OF COMPETITION

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

Amaranthus retroflexus L., Convolvulus arvensis L., Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. var. villosus, Datura stramonium L., Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv and Portulaca oleracea L. are weeds commonly seen in agricultural fields. Weeds pose serious threat to agricultural production. This study focuses on mineral nutrient uptake competition arisen between maize and weed species. Maize (Zea mays L.) was planted in a model field in Emirli Village-Istanbul/Turkey and the above-mentioned weeds were allowed to be grown along with maize. Then, weed and maize species along with their co-located soil sample ...Более

Assessment on phytoplankton composition and heavy metal pollution in a drinking water resource: Lake Terkos (Istanbul, Turkey)

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

n this study, the level of water pollution in Lake Terkos, one of the important drinking water resources of Istanbul Metropolitan, was examined by determining the phytoplankton distribution, some physicochemical parameters, nutrients and heavy metal concentrations. For this purpose, samples were collected from eight sampling stations in March and September from the surface water. 34 taxa, from 8 divisions were categorized as Bacillariophyta (17), Charophyta (2), Chlorophyta (5), Cryptophyta (1), Cyanobacteria (5), Euglenozoa (2), Miozoa (1) and Ochrophyta (1). The habitat of blue-green algae A ...Более

Assessment of pollution at the former uranium waste dumpsite near kaji-Say Village/Kyrgyzstan: a genetic and physiological investigation

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT | Bermet KIDIRALİYEVA | Kadırbay ÇEKİROV | Gülbübü KURMANBEKOVA | Nurzat ŞAYKİYEVA

Kyrgyzstan still suffers from the past practices of radioactive industry operated by the Soviet Union that caused significant impact on ecosystems in this region, especially related with storage of uranium in inadequate conditions. There are at least 50 abandoned sites used as radioactive waste dumps in the country. Due to the pressure of natural and anthropogenic reasons, the structural foundations of mine waste dumps are gradually losing their integrities. Here, particular interest of our research is to reveal current state of radioactive contamination and to make evaluation on the radiologi ...Более

Morphological variation, genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra populations from Tunisia

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra is an ecologically, medicinally and economically important species in Tunisia. Thirty-six Hypericum individuals sampled from 6 northern Tunisian locations were investigated for their diversity and relationships using 10 inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) markers and 10 morphological features at vegetative stage. The phylogenetic analysis, using 308 bp of sequenced ITS1 region, identified the Hypericum individuals as H. triquetrifolium that clustered with members of genus Hypericum section 9, 9a, 9b and 27, in agreement with the previous molecular classificatio ...Более

Deciding Heavy Metal Levels in Soil Based on Various Ecological Information through Artificial Intelligence Modeling

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

The aim of this paper is to decide on heavy metal levels based on ecological parameters by effectively eliminating common disadvantages such as high cost and serious time-consuming laboratory procedures via an effective artificial intelligence approach. Therefore, this study is hinged on an artificial intelligence technique, ANN, because of its low cost and high accuracy in overcoming the mentioned limitations and obstacles in the determination process of the amounts of elements. The ANNs have thus been employed to determine essential heavy metals, such as Fe, Mn, and Zn depending on Ca, K, an ...Более

A case study performed in Kucukcekmece Lagoon channel/Istanbul, Turkey: how the heavy metal contamination and the seasonal variations on phytoplankton composition influence water quality

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

In this work, the experiments related to seasonal variations of phytoplankton composition and heavy metal contamination along with some water quality parameters were carried out throughout the channel, serving as a waterway between Lake Kucukcekmece and the Sea of Marmara. Considered as a Class B wetland, the lake has been stayed within the metropolitan area of Istanbul overtime. The samples from the surface water were taken monthly by using Nansen bottles at 5 sampling sites through the period of March-November. After experimental procedures, a total of 46 taxa were recorded belonging to Baci ...Более
