Of Silica Gel-Glasses on the 4 I 13/2 → 4 I 15/2 Luminescence Bandwidth of Er3 Ions

Zamirgül KAZAKBAYEVA

The luminescence of Er3 ions in silica glasses synthesized by the direct sol–gel–glass transition method and by melting of activated gel grit using various precursors of optical centers was studied. The formation of complex centers including erbium, aluminum, and alkali metal ions was found to be one way of essentially increasing the half-width of the 4 I 13/2 → 4 I 15/2 luminescence band of these ions. Keyword: complex optical centers; luminescence; rare earth ions; sol–gel method

Effect of Impact Angle and Speed, and Weight Abrasive Concentration on AISI 1015 and 304 Steel Exposed to Erosive Wear

Refik POLAT

This study investigated parametrically the erosive wear behavior of AISI 1015 and 304 steel in different environmental conditions. The erosive wear tests were designed according to the L9 orthogonal array design of the Taguchi fractional factorial method. The experiments were carried out with the parameters of 3-level slurry concentration formed with silica powder (5, 15, and 25 wt.), 3-level impact velocity (265, 397.5, and 530 rpm), and 3-level impact angle (30°, 60°, and 90°). Surface roughness and weight loss were considered performance criteria in the experimental data assessed using the ...Более

Non-Metal Polymeric Bioparticles Based on Maleic Acid/Citric Acid as a Catalyst for H-2 Generation from NaBH4

Nahit AKTAŞ

Novel metal-free catalysts were synthesized form maleic acid (MA) and citric acid (CA) based polymers for hydrogen generation form NaBH4. Surfactant-free-self-emulsion polymerization technique was used to synthesize poly(Maleic acid)(poly(MA)), poly(Citric acid)(poly(CA)) and poly(Maleic acid-co-Citric Acid) poly(MA-co-CA)) polymeric micro-particles in a single step. The prepared catalysts were characterized by zeta potential, SEM, FTIR and TGA. The hydrodynamic diameter of the poly(MA), poly(CA) and poly(MA-co-CA) micro-particles were found to be 0.681, 1.273, 1.604 mu m and the zeta potentia ...Более

Taguchi optimization of automotive radiator cooling with nanofluids

Kasım BAYNAL

Considering the influences of the heat transfer rate in automotive radiators on several aspects such as engine performance, fuel economy and available space for components, the present study numerically investigates the impacts of different nanofluids on the heat transfer and pressure drop in an automotive radiator. Four different parameters each having four levels are taken into consideration, which are nanoparticle volume fraction (phi 0.1, 0.3, 0.7, and 1), Reynolds number (Re 9350, 13,800, 18,500 and 23,000), type of base fluid (EG20, EG40, EG60, and water) and type of nanoparticle (Fe3O4, ...Более

Hydrogen Production from Methanolysis of Sodium Borohydride by Non-metal p(CO) Organo-particles Synthesized from Castor Oil

Nahit AKTAŞ

In this study, the poly (Castor Oil) (p(CO)) organo-particle from natural castor oil (CO) was synthesized for the first time in literature for sodium boron hydride (NaBH4) methanolysis hydrogen production. As is known, catalysts are used in most reactions performed in the chemical industry. Here, by analytical method, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermal Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) and Ultra Field Emission Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM) analyzes of the catalyst were performed and the characteristics of the catalyst were determined. Also for the methanolysis of the p(CO ...Более

CNT-Supported Multi-Metallic (Ga@PdAgCo) Anode Catalysts: Synthesis, Characterization, and Glucose Electrooxidation Application

Hilal DEMİR KIVRAK

Here, Ga@PdAgCo catalysts were prepared by sequential reduction using carbon nanotubes (CNT) as support material. The catalysts at different weight percentages were characterized by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analytical techniques. Chronoamperometry (CA), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were applied to examine the glucose electrooxidation performance of the catalysts. Among the catalysts, the 7 Ga@PdAgCo(C ...Более

Synthesis of Poly(ginger oil) Organo Particles as a Metal Free Catalysis and Their Use in Hydrogen Production from Sodium Borohydride Methanolysis

Nahit AKTAŞ

The use of the metal free catalysts synthesized form natural and environmental friendly materials for fast generation of hydrogen is accomplished form sodium borohydride (NaBH4) methanolysis assays. Thus, green and metal free-catalysts were prepared form natural resources of ginger oil (GO). Polymeric GO particles were synthesized via emulsion polymerization technique and characterized in detail. The hydrodynamic diameters of p(GO) particles were found to be in the 220 nm and the zeta potential was - 162.48 mV. TGA results showed that thermal decomposition of microparticles was gradually conti ...Более

Fabrication of Carbon-Doped Titanium Dioxide Nanotubes as Anode Materials for Photocatalytic Glucose Fuel Cells

Nahit AKTAŞ | Ali Osman SOLAK

In the present work, TiO2 nanotubes (TNT) and carbon-doped TiO2 nanotubes (C-TNT) were produced via the anodization method. Carbon doping was performed on TNT in a tubular oven employing two different 15 cm3/min total flow rates with varying compositions of acetylene (C2H2) and argon (Ar) as VC2H2/Ar = 7/93 (1 cm3/min C2H2   14 cm3/min Ar) for C-TNT (7:93) and VC2H2/Ar = 33/67 (5 cm3/min C2H2   10 cm3/min Ar) for C-TNT (33:67). The synthesized C-doped TNT was characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD, Raman spectra, and SEM result ...Более
