Characterization of a 2,2-dichloropropionic acid (2,2-dcp) degrading alkalotorelant bacillus megaterium strain bhs1 isolated from blue lake in Turkey

Yılmaz KAYA

An acid, 2,2-dichloropropionic acid (2,2-DCP) is an active ingredient in herbicide (Dalapon®). Using 2,2-DCP as a model substrate, an alkalotolerant bacterium was successfully isolated from the Blue Lake, Turkey. This bacterium is a potential bioremediation agent of recalcitrant xenobiotic halogenated compounds. This study aimed to prove the efficacy of the alkalotolerance Bacillus megaterium BHS1 in degrading 2,2-DCP as the sole source of carbon. Biolog GEN III system and 16S rRNA analysis were used for the identification of the bacterium. It was discovered that the strain BHS1 is Bacillus m ...Более

Interactive effects of cold and temperate conditions on growth and biochemical content of Antarctic microalga Chlorella variabilis YTU.ANTARCTIC.001

Yılmaz KAYA

The aim of this study was to isolate and identify Antarctica microalgae collected through the National Antarctic Science Expedition and to examine the growth responses and biochemical contents of Chlorella variabilis under cold and temperate cultivation conditions in growth medium consisting of various nitrogen concentrations under different lighting cycle parameters. In this study, the Antarctic microalgae Chlorella variabilis YTU.ANTARCTIC.001, was cultivated at different temperatures of 4, 13, 20 and 27 °C in modified BG-11 medium with various concentrations of NaNO3 (0, 0.75, 1.5, 2.5 and ...Более

Plant Diversity of Ala-Archa National Park in Kyrgyzstan with Emphasis on Its Economical Potential

Nazgül İMANBERDİYEVA | Zeki SEVEROĞLU | Gülbübü KURMANBEKOVA

The national parks are the most important tools in biodiversity conservation. The generally include remote and rugged areas possessing a low possibility for human use. They are of lower economic value. Currently the Republic of Kyrgyzstan possesses a total of eight national parks. These cover approximately 1.4 of national territory. One of these national parks is the Ala-Archa National Park. During the period covering the months from May to October, every weekend hundreds of visitors pay a visit to this oldest national park of the country established in 1976. The 25 km long park has a total ar ...Более

Assessment on phytoplankton composition and heavy metal pollution in a drinking water resource: Lake Terkos (Istanbul, Turkey)

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

n this study, the level of water pollution in Lake Terkos, one of the important drinking water resources of Istanbul Metropolitan, was examined by determining the phytoplankton distribution, some physicochemical parameters, nutrients and heavy metal concentrations. For this purpose, samples were collected from eight sampling stations in March and September from the surface water. 34 taxa, from 8 divisions were categorized as Bacillariophyta (17), Charophyta (2), Chlorophyta (5), Cryptophyta (1), Cyanobacteria (5), Euglenozoa (2), Miozoa (1) and Ochrophyta (1). The habitat of blue-green algae A ...Более

A case study performed in Kucukcekmece Lagoon channel/Istanbul, Turkey: how the heavy metal contamination and the seasonal variations on phytoplankton composition influence water quality

İbrahim İlker ÖZYİĞİT

In this work, the experiments related to seasonal variations of phytoplankton composition and heavy metal contamination along with some water quality parameters were carried out throughout the channel, serving as a waterway between Lake Kucukcekmece and the Sea of Marmara. Considered as a Class B wetland, the lake has been stayed within the metropolitan area of Istanbul overtime. The samples from the surface water were taken monthly by using Nansen bottles at 5 sampling sites through the period of March-November. After experimental procedures, a total of 46 taxa were recorded belonging to Baci ...Более
