This paper examines the role of the classroom environment in promoting student well-being and, more specif-ically, a sense of responsibility towards nature in the city. The study analyzed how indoor vs outdoor educational environments affect students' perception of events and phenomena focusing on emotional, behavioral and cognitive processes. It was conducted in the Kayakyolu Secondary School, Erzurum, Turkey with 282 students ranging in age from 11 to 14 in grades 5-8. They participated in reading a story in two distinct environments: an enclosed indoor classroom and an outdoor botanical gar ...Более
In this study, morphological and molecular characterizations of twenty-four Heterodera populations (cereal cyst nematodes, CCNs) collected from wheat production fields in Turkey were carried out. Light microscopy, species-specific markers, RFLP, and ITS sequencing were used to identify the nematode populations. The obtained CCN populations were identified as Heterodera avenae, H. filipjevi, and H. latipons according to the morphometric analysis, which was confirmed by the molecular techniques. The ITS region sequencing analysis confirmed the species identification, and phylogenetic analysis of ...Более
In this study, Abbas fig variety grown in Kahramanmaraş province of Turkey was used.Abbas fig variety was covered with peppermint oil, an essential oil variety, and stored at 4°C for 5 weeks in bags prepared with modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) technology. As a result of the study, it was aimed to extend the storage time and shelf life of the fig fruit with these applications. Pomological and chemical analyses were performed on the samples during storage. In the study, in order to determine fruit quality characteristics, weight loss, fruit width and fruit length, fruit rind and flesh color, ...Более
Fire blight, caused by the bacterial pathogen Erwinia amylovora, is a severe bacterial disease of apple and pear that can quickly destroy whole plants. In the last decade, it was also detected in Central Asia, where wild pomaceous fruit plants represent the dominant species in mid-altitude forests and constitute a critical foundation for the entire ecosystem. Efficiently informing farmers, forestry services and private persons about the instances and dangers of fire blight, the correct way to recognize the symptoms, and the methods of disease control is thus of paramount importance in a vast a ...Более
This study introduces a new evolutionary approach called Binary Genetic Programming (BGP) to design and assess public transportation systems from a sustainable development perspective. The BGP combines evolutionary system identi cation techniques with k-fold cross-validation to obtain an accurate model between the land use and transportation parameters from a sustainable urban development point of view. To assess the new model, two public transportation systems including the new tram line of Antalya (Turkey) and the bus rapid transit line of Bhopal (India) were considered. The model was employ ...Более
Choosing the right method to discover superior genotypes is always one of the major challenges that oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) researchers deal with. This work aimed to compare the univariate and multivariate selection indices utilizing variance-based, additive main effects and multiplicative interaction based, best linear unbiased prediction based, and genotype x environment/trait based strategies to determine the best-performing (regarding stability, yield, and agronomic traits) oilseed rape genotypes. Utilized indices were categorized into five general methods, including univariate pe ...Более
The genus Agropyron has an important role in soil protection and forage production in rangelands. The investigation utilized 37 ISSR primers, resulting in the detection of 956 loci within the A. elongatum genome and 705 loci within the A. cristatum genome. The findings revealed a high level of polymorphism, with 97 of loci in A. elongatum and 84 of loci in A. cristatum exhibiting variability. Notably, the primer (AC)8GCT emerged as a promising candidate for evaluating genetic diversity due to its ability to amplify numerous loci in both species. Using both the UPGMA algorithm and Bayesian anal ...Более
The estimation of heritability is critical in selecting breeding strategies for various characteristics of agricultural plants. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications was used at Moghan Agricultural Research Station in Iran during the 2017-2018 crop years to evaluate heritability and genetic efficiency in 14 advanced sesame lines, and the Oltan cultivar was used as a control variety. The number of days to flowering (DF), growth period (GP), plant height (PH), number of capsules per plant (CN), capsule length (CL), 1000-seed weight (SW), seed (SY), and oil yield (OY) w ...Более
During the period of June to October in 2018, a widespread decline was observed on kiwifruit vines in the vineyards located in the Altinordu, Fatsa, and Persembe districts of Ordu province in Turkey. The symptoms were associated with reddish-brown rots expanding from the root to the collar with sparse off-color foliage. Based on the percentage of the total infected samples across 18 vineyards, the most common oomycete species were Globisporangium intermedium (37.1), Phytopythium vexans (34.3), Globisporangium sylvaticum (14.3), Globisporangium heterothallicum (11.4), and Pythium dissotocum (2. ...Более
Background Entomopathogenic fungi are a potential biological control agent for many pests. In this study, 14 native Beauveria bassiana isolates were molecularly identified and assessed for their virulence and mortality against adults of the polyphagous planthopper Orosanga japonica, Melichar (Hemiptera: Ricaniidae) a polyphagous sap-feeding insect, under laboratory conditions. Results Isolates obtained from naturally infected adults O. japonica were molecularly identified as B. bassiana by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer and 26S large subunit of ribosomal DNA. In the bioassay, the r ...Более
Simple Summary Turkey is the world's largest producer and exporter of hazelnut. Ambrosia beetle species are the most common species of pests for hazelnut in the orchards of Turkey. These beetles cause enormous economic losses by draining hazelnut branches and trees. The techniques for managing ambrosia beetles are limited. The more effective and eco-friendly alternative control methods, including the use of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF), should be included in integrated pest management programs to suppress ambrosia beetle populations. The objectives of the current study were (i) to isolate EPF ...Более
Plant genetic resources constitute the most valuable assets of countries. It is of great importance to determine the genetic variation among these resources and to use the data in breeding studies. Cucurbita maxima species in the Cucurbitaceae family have high genetic diversity, but molecular genetic diversity studies of this species are insufficient in Turkey. To determine the genetic diversity among genotypes of Cucurbita maxima species of squash, which is widely grown in Erzincan, 14 different squash genotypes collected were examined based on the morphological parameters and molecular chara ...Более
