Characterization of cereal cyst nematodes in wheat using morphometrics, SCAR markers, RFLP, and rDNA-ITS sequence analyses

Şenol YILDIZ

In this study, morphological and molecular characterizations of twenty-four Heterodera populations (cereal cyst nematodes, CCNs) collected from wheat production fields in Turkey were carried out. Light microscopy, species-specific markers, RFLP, and ITS sequencing were used to identify the nematode populations. The obtained CCN populations were identified as Heterodera avenae, H. filipjevi, and H. latipons according to the morphometric analysis, which was confirmed by the molecular techniques. The ITS region sequencing analysis confirmed the species identification, and phylogenetic analysis of ...Более

The relationship between long-term portfolio investments and growth in the context of asset characteristics and development level

İbrahim Halil SUGÖZÜ

This study investigates the linkage between portfolio investment and economic growth in 18 developed and 27 developing countries. Furthermore, it compares and analyzes interest-bearing and non-interest-bearing assets and the economic development level. The results of our analysis show that long-term portfolio investment is positively associated with economic growth in developing countries. Long-term portfolio investment through non-interest-bearing assets contribute more to economic growth in developing countries. However, stocks and long-term bond portfolio investment are unrelated to economi ...Более

Identifying Geogenic and Anthropogenic Aluminum Pollution on Different Spatial Distributions and Removal of Natural Waters and Soil in Canakkale, Turkey

Mehmet KOBYA

The Çanakkale–Kirazlı region (Turkey) is enriched with minerals, especially aluminum (Al), which dangerously get transported into aquatic media due to several mining and geological activities in recent years. In this study, Al and other potentially toxic metals (PTMs) including B, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Si, and Zn, in both water and soil samples, were measured for quality determination. Selected metals were also analyzed by the enrichment factor (EF), the geoaccumulation index (Igeo), the contamination factor (CF), and the pollution load index (PLI) to evaluate both water and soil ...Более

The Kok-Tash underground mausoleum in north-eastern Kyrgyzstan: the first-ever identified Qara Khitai elite tomb?

Kubatbek TABALDİYEV | Künbolot AKMATOV

The Qara Khitai or Western Liao dynasty (1124-1218) is one of the most fascinating polities in medieval Eurasia, but also one of the least documented in terms of both literary sources and material culture. Founded by Khitan refugees who escaped from North China when the Jurchen Jin dynasty (1115-1234) vanquished the Khitan Liao dynasty (907-1125), the Qara Khitai soon established a multicultural empire in Central Asia, combining Khitan, Chinese, and Muslim elements. The Buddhist Qara Khitai ruled over their mostly Muslim population in rare harmony until the rise of Chinggis Khan (r. 1206-1227) ...Более

Epidemiological characteristics and financial losses due to avian aspergillosis in households in the Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan

Nurbek ALDAYAROV

Aspergillosis is a severe fungal disease that affects all species and ages of poultry and leads to significant economic losses within the poultry industry. The economic significance of aspergillosis is associated with direct losses due to poultry mortality, a decline in the production of meat and eggs, feed conversion, and poor growth of recovering poultry. Although a decrease in the production of poultry meat and eggs in Kazakhstan due to this fungal disease has been widely reported, studies on the consequent financial losses on affected farms (households) have not been carried out. This stud ...Более

Bioremediation approaches for oil contaminated soils in extremely high-mountainous conditions

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA | Ciyde TOKPAEVA | Canarbek İZAKOV | Mirlan MOLDOBAYEV

Development of methods for bioremediation of soils contaminated with petroleum products is one of the most urgent tasks of our time. This task is more difficult to perform in high-mountainous landscapes, at an altitude of more than 4 000 m a.s.l. Moreover, these high-mountain ecosystems are the most vulnerable to various kinds of anthropogenic impacts, and therefore the relevance of bioremediation is obvious. The research was conducted in the high-altitude ecosystems of the Kyrgyz Republic at the Kumtor mine. In this study was carried out on the bioremediation of oil contaminated soil using bi ...Более

An app for apples: Citizen-led mapping of fire blight in Central Asia

Saykal BOBUŞOVA | Tinatin DOOLOTKELDİEVA

Fire blight, caused by the bacterial pathogen Erwinia amylovora, is a severe bacterial disease of apple and pear that can quickly destroy whole plants. In the last decade, it was also detected in Central Asia, where wild pomaceous fruit plants represent the dominant species in mid-altitude forests and constitute a critical foundation for the entire ecosystem. Efficiently informing farmers, forestry services and private persons about the instances and dangers of fire blight, the correct way to recognize the symptoms, and the methods of disease control is thus of paramount importance in a vast a ...Более

A new binary genetic programming approach to designing public transportation systems according to transit-oriented development criteria

Hasan YILMAZ

This study introduces a new evolutionary approach called Binary Genetic Programming (BGP) to design and assess public transportation systems from a sustainable development perspective. The BGP combines evolutionary system identi cation techniques with k-fold cross-validation to obtain an accurate model between the land use and transportation parameters from a sustainable urban development point of view. To assess the new model, two public transportation systems including the new tram line of Antalya (Turkey) and the bus rapid transit line of Bhopal (India) were considered. The model was employ ...Более
