No Evidence of an Elevation Effect Caused by Temperature Differences on Soil Microbial Properties in a Walnut Fruit Forest in Kyrgyzstan

Cıldız ÖSKÖNBAEVA

This study is to investigate the effect of differences in annual average temperature on soil microbial communities as caused by elevation in walnut-fruit forests in Kyrgyzstan with similar vegetation. Soil samples (n 10 per site) were collected from top- and subsoil at three elevation levels (1000, 1300 and 1600 m above sea level) with an average temperature difference of 1.3 °C between sites and analysed for soil chemical and biological properties. All soil properties showed high variability within, but most revealed no differences between elevation levels. Microbial biomass, activity and com ...Более

Ecological Assessment of Technogenically Disturbed Soils of the Mountain Ecosystems of Kyrgyz Republic Based on the TRIAD Method

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA | Kanatbek KOCOBAYEV | Aygül USUBALİYEVA | Ciyde TOKPAEVA

Comprehensive studies of soil contamination were performed in the area of settlement Kichi-Kemin (Kyrgyz Republic). Soils of the Kyrgyz Republic are exposed to waste (tailings) of many industrial enterprises of the mining industry not far from the village of A k-Tuz, located 145 km from the capital of Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek, at an altitude of 2300 m above sea level. It is noted that 4.17 million tons of radioactive waste from one of the enterprises were once disposed of at four tailings in the Kichi-Kemin Valley. The main waste elements are radioactive thorium, heavy metals such as cadmium, ...Более

Microbiological Diversity and Biotechnological Potential of the Soil Ecosystem of a High-Mountainous Landfill

Nurzat TOTUBAYEVA | Kanatbek KOCOBAYEV | Ciyde TOKPAEVA

Strains isolated from high mountain industrial landfills have high biotechnological potential and studying their diversity is relevant. The objective of this study was to investigate the microbial diversity of oil-contaminated soils at a high mountain mine located 4000 meters above sea level, isolated and characterized by hydrocarbon-resistant bacteria and compare the degradation efficiency of two bacterial consortia. The surface layer (0-30 cm) that consists of 10440 mg/kg hydrocarbons were used for the experiment. A bacteria group of the three genera Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium, and Rhodococ ...Более

Thermal and Optical Properties of In and In2O3 Nanoparticles Synthesized Using Pulsed Plasma in Water

Emil ÖMÜRZAK

We present small indium (In) nanoparticles with an average diameter of 4.5 nm synthesized by pulsed plasma in water. Slightly increased lattice constants and thermal stability of the tetragonal In are revealed by X‐ray diffraction analysis, Rietveld refinement, and thermogravimetric analysis. The highly crystalline body‐centered cubic indium oxide (In2O3) nanoparticles with an average diameter of 12 nm and various shapes (semispherical, semihexagonal, and semicubic) are obtained by annealing the as‐synthesized In nanoparticles at 450 °C. The bandgap energy of the In2O3 nanoparticles is 3.63 eV ...Более

Phosphorous removal from anaerobically digested municipal sludge centrate by an electrocoagulation reactor using metal (Al, Fe and Al-Fe) scrap anodes

Mehmet KOBYA

Phosphates are a major cause of eutrophication and growth of algal blooms in surface waters. The current study investigated phosphorus removal from sludge centrate effluent (SCE) of a municipal wastewater plant by packed-bed electrocoagulation (EC) reactor. Distinctively, iron (Fe), aluminum (Al) and Al-Fe hybrid scrap anodes were used. The influence of initial pHi, applied current and packed anode bed density were evaluated. Phosphorous removal efficiency of 99.99 ?as obtained at applied current of 0.20A with anode bed densities of 0.18 kg Al/m3 (pHi 5.0) and 0.48 kg Fe/m3(pHi 7.0). Optimum o ...Более
