Investigation on properties of cement mortar with bottom ash and perlite

Kasım BAYNAL

Perlite and some recycled materials are preferably used to provide thermal insulation and lightness in mortar. Cement is often used as a binder in such a composite, although it makes the composite heavier and impairs its insulation properties. In this study, recycled bottom ash (BA) and expanded perlite (EP) as the aggregate, and cement as the binder and the optimum solution were investigated by using Taguchi Method. Depending on the specimens prepared using orthogonal array L9, the values of compressive strength, flexural strength, flowability, dry unit weight, water absorption, capillarity c ...Более

Internal Curing and Temperature Effect on Lightweight and Heat Insulated Mortar with Recycled Concrete Aggregate

Kasım BAYNAL

One of the best methods of waste recycling in the construction sector is to employ it in concrete or mortar preparation. In this study, recycled concrete aggregate and bottom ash were used as aggregates in the mortar. Additionaly, expanded perlite which is a material providing lightness, heat insulation and fire resistance, was also used as aggregate. Calcium aluminate cement was preferred as binder to improve fire resistance. Results were obtained and evaluated in terms of flexural and compressive strength, dry unit weight, water absorption, capillarity, thermal conductivity, thermal resistan ...Более

Optimisation of elastomeric bearings' vulcanisation process using response surface methodology and desirability function approach

Kasım BAYNAL

In this study, response surface methodology and desirability function approach (DFA) were used to optimise the vulcanisation process of elastomeric bearings to obtain better quality products. For this purpose, compressive stiffness and vertical deflection under maximum load were determined as response variables with a target at 198 kN/mm and 3.46 mm, respectively, in accordance with customer's request. Time, temperature and pressure were considered as control variables of the process. Experimental combinations were determined using Box-Behnken design and two repetitions were made in each combi ...Более
