Heteroscedastic probit model: An application of home ownership in Turkey

Ebru ÇAĞLAYAN AKAY

This study examines the factors affecting the possibility of owning a house in Turkey using probit models. Moreover, it focuses on the heteroscedasticity problem that is ignored in most of the probit applications. The results obtained from the study indicate that besides the demographic characteristics of the head of the household, education, employment, and income are also influential factors in regard to home ownership. Besides these things, evidence indicates that the choice to live in either rural or urban areas has a significant impact on home ownership.

Approximating the Stieltjes integral by using the generalized trapezoid rule

Avıt ASANOV | Mustafa Haluk ÇELİK

Accurate approximations for the Stieltjes integral by the generalized trapezoid rule. The generalized trapezoid rule is established on the basis of the derivative of function with respect to strictly increasing function, defined in [9].

A case study of foreign direct investment in Kyrgyzstan

İbrahim KELEŞ

For developing or poor countries that do not have substantial natural resources that can be used in their economic development, foreign direct investment (FDI) may play an important role considering the inability of such countries to modernize their industries and produce industrialized products. One the benefits of FDI is the opportunity for local firms to learn from experiences and capabilities of foreign firms. Kyrgyzstan is a poor and newly independent country of the former Soviet Union (FSU). This region is one of the last areas to which foreign investments have been flowing. Garibaldi et ...Более

Changes and transformations in the bureaucratic administration of Kyrgyzstan: political elite and corruption = Перемены и преобразования в бюрократическом управлении Кыргызстана: политическая элита и коррупция

Ömer Faruk KARAMAN | Altınbek COLDOŞOV

One of the most important features that distinguishes ideal type bureaucracy from patrimonial bureaucracies is their relations with politics. These relations, determined within the constitutional framework, can operate in informal ways in some countries where traditional authorities are settled. Today, despite the existence of democratic rules and institutions in neopatrimonial countries, the ruling elites can influence bureaucracy within the scope of informal relations. In Kyrgyzstan, it is mentioned about the politics-bureaucracy relationship that takes shape around the presidents elected by ...Более

Relationship between Trade Openness and Economic Growth: Evidence from Panel Causality Analysis

Zamira ÖSKÖNBAYEVA

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between trade openness and economic growth using the panel data of 125 countries for the period 1992-2015. For this purpose, a three-stage panel Granger causality test has been employed. Countries were divided into two groups as developed and developing countries. In the first stage panel unit root test has been used in order to explore stationarity properties of the series. Then panel co-integration technique has been employed in order to estimate long-run economic relationships between variables. In the last stage panel ...Более

Direct and inverse approximation theorems of functions in the Orlicz type spaces S-M

Fahreddin ABDULLAYEV

In the Orlicz type spaces S-M, we prove direct and inverse approximation theorems in terms of the best approximations of functions and moduli of smoothness of fractional order. We also show the equivalence between moduli of smoothness and Peetre K-functionals in the spaces S-M. (C) 2019 Mathematical Institute Slovak Academy of Sciences

Remittances and Economic Growth in Transition Countries

Kamalbek KARIMŞAKOV

Migrants' remittances have become an important development tool because they can raise income and reduce poverty rates in developing countries. These remittances might also promote development by providing funds that recipients can spend on education or health care or invest in entrepreneurial activities. Thus, workers' remittances are a steadily growing external source of capital for developing countries. In spite of the fact that importance of remittances in total international capital flows are increasing, the relationship between remittances and growth has not been adequately studied. The ...Более

Microbial communities in pesticide-contaminated soils in Kyrgyzstan and bioremediation possibilities

Tinatin DOOLOTKELDİEVA | Mahabat KONURBAYEVA | Saykal BOBUŞOVA

In Kyrgyzstan, many former storehouses and dump sites for obsolete pesticides exist. In 2009/2010, an inventory and assessment of these sites including risks of environmental hazard has been conducted by FAO and the World Bank. Monitoring revealed high concentration of pesticides listed as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The purpose of this research was to study the microbial structural complexes of the pesticide-contaminated soils in these dumping zones, and to search for and select microorganism’s destructors with cytochrome P450 genes for pesticide degradation. Culture-dependent and c ...Более
