Focusing on the case study of post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan, this article examines high school students' perception of their schools and education by using metaphors. A total of 1433 high school students participated in this research. Based on the data that we collected from 9th and 10th grade students during field research (January - February 2020) in various regions of Kyrgyzstan and analysed students' answers about their schools. The article examines the state of democracy in the Kyrgyz Republic, with an emphasis on understanding democracy through the lens of the political consciousness, social memory and spiritual and cultural values of the Central Asian republic via comparative and typological methods. The result of the article shows the struggle between the new political culture and the traditional political order, which channels the democracy development in a specific direction.
